The massive fires engulfing Southern California began days after the National Weather Service warned of potentially extreme fires due to a powerful windstorm.

The fires were propelled by hurricane-force winds that reached 90 mph and began on Tuesday before intensifying on Wednesday.

The fires have left destruction and chaos in their wake, leading to fatalities, confusion, a high number of evacuations, and a huge loss of properties.

Firefighters are still struggling to contain the fires due to the strong winds and highly-flammable Southern California area that experienced a long summer dry season.
