Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck Settle Their Divorce More Than Four Months After Filing

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are starting the new year with a clean slate, as they have officially reached a divorce settlement.

Last year, the former couple made waves when the "Atlas" actress ended their highly publicized marriage in August. Five months later, the duo reached a favorable agreement despite not having a prenup.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were previously engaged in 2002 before the widespread media attention on their romance influenced their separation. They reconnected in 2021, three years after the finalization of the actor's divorce from Jennifer Garner.

Lopez's marital ties to Affleck will be finalized on February 20, weeks after the former couple reached a settlement mediated by the famous divorce attorney Laura Wasser. They needed the legal rep's expertise because they did not have a prenuptial agreement.

The lack of a prenup in celebrity divorces typically saw the couple split everything they had 50/50 or fight it out in court to protect their interests. However, in Lopez and Affleck's case, they did not have to take the nasty route; they settled their differences amicably.

According to their agreement, Lopez and Affleck shall walk away with everything they individually earned during their marriage. They also terminated their rights to spousal support, and since they welcomed no children during their two-year romance, child support and custody were not a problem, per TMZ.

The settlement mediated by Wasser served as the perfect prenup for Lopez and Affleck, protecting their financial interests. The "Argo" actor's stake in his successful production company, Artists Equity, put millions on the line.

Affleck co-created the company with his longtime pal Matt Damon in November 2022, about four months after he tied the knot to Lopez. Since their union, AE Productions has launched multiple successful movies like "Air," "Unstoppable," and "The Accountant 2."

Thanks to the settlement, Affleck won't have to share a single penny with Lopez. The same applied to his soon-to-be ex-wife, who garnered success in several movies during their marriage, including "This Is Me... Now," "The Mother," "Shotgun Wedding," and "Marry Me."

Lopez and Affleck reached an agreement about the $61 million house they bought during their marriage; however, the settlement terms were not disclosed. The property has reportedly been placed on the market, but no buyers have shown interest.

Days before the Bennifer duo's settlement made waves, The Blast shared that Lopez dropped a 2024 recap without Affleck's inclusion. She shared the video montage on Instagram, capturing highlights from cover shoots, performances, premiere appearances, and award shows.

She also included snippets from her documentary, "This Is Me… Now," inspired by her romance with the actor. However, Affleck's face was nowhere to be seen. Lopez seemingly hinted at closing the chapter to their marriage in the clip, confessing:

"In my low moments, I've learned to just feel the feelings and then let them go."

Despite the end of their romantic ties, Lopez and Affleck continued their friendship. They reportedly reunited the Sunday before Christmas for lunch at the members-only Soho House in West Hollywood.

The former couple met to exchange holiday gifts, an interaction that supported a source's claims about their amicable bond. They noted the duo had "every intention of continuing to be in each other's lives despite not being romantically involved."

"Ben and Jennifer are still connected, and they do communicate when it involves their kids," the insider said. Following Affleck's lunch date with Lopez, he was photographed picking up his son from his ex-wife Jennifer Garner's $7.8M four-bedroom Brentwood Park home.

According to an insider, Affleck's ex-wife played a significant role in his separation from the "Jenny from the Block" singer. The Blast reported that the former couple enjoyed a cordial relationship after the finalization of their divorce in 2018, but this bond allegedly irked Lopez.

"J.Lo felt threatened by Jen Garner for almost all of her marriage. The way Ben would run to her for advice any time they had a fight drove her crazy," the source claimed. They added that Affleck was more comfortable around his ex-wife and their three kids than his blended family.

"He's so at ease with her, there's no tension, no pressure, he can totally be himself," the insider said about Affleck's relationship with Garner. Another reason that allegedly influenced the duo's divorce occurred when Lopez's then-husband moved into a $100k-a-month Brentwood rental home close to his ex-wife.

Despite their differences during their marriage, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's amicable settlement proves they have buried the hatchet and are willing to work together.
