In a new legal complaint, Tory Lanez has accused Megan Thee Stallion of "weaponizing the justice system."
Earlier this month, Megan filed a temporary restraining order (TRO) against Lanez, claiming that he has been harassing her from prison through social media and third parties. Megan specifically named blogger Milagro Gramz (real name Milagro Elizabeth Cooper) in her filing.
According to Megan Thee Stallion’s request, Tory Lanez allegedly enlisted Milagro Elizabeth Cooper to "bully, harass, and further victimize" her through online commentary and interactions.
Tory Lanez Pushes Back On Restraining Order, Accuses Megan Thee Stallion Of Legal Manipulation
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE Magazine from the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County, Tory Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) filed a motion on Tuesday, December 24, addressing the temporary restraining order (TRO) request filed earlier this month by Megan Thee Stallion (real name Megan Pete).
In the filing, Lanez's legal team claims that Megan, "has improperly decided to use the Los Angeles County civil court to file a frivolous request for civil harassment restraining order against Daystar Peterson, who has had zero direct contact with Ms. Pete."
The motion adds another layer to the ongoing legal dispute between the two artists, with both sides continuing to present their cases in court.
"When celebrity with millions of dollars and backed by large corporation disagrees with free speech or opinions, they weaponize the justice system, failing to understand that they are public figures, who voluntarily catapulted themselves into the limelight, unable to deal with the controversy and public opinions," the documents read in part.
Tory Lanez Hits Back At Megan Thee Stallion
In his legal response, Lanez references California Code of Civil Procedure § 527.8, which, according to his filing, "prohibits courts from issuing restraining orders that restrict constitutionally protected speech. The statute ensures restraining order."
The docs further state, "Rather than rebut the commentary or debate the issues raised by Defendant’s comments so people can make up their own minds, Plaintiff has succumbed to the current trend of using the legal system in an attempt to cancel those opinions she disagrees with."
Megan Thee Stallion Files Temporary Restraining Order
Earlier this month, Megan filed a temporary restraining order against Lanez, accusing him of harassing her from prison through social media and third parties.
"Despite being sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Ms. Pete, Mr. Peterson continues to subject her to repeated trauma and revictimization," the request alleged. The filing noted that the "continued harassment" has caused Megan "severe emotional distress and reputational harm."
“Mr. Peterson is fully aware of the impact of the psychological warfare he has waged against Ms. Pete, yet he continues to deputize his supporters to attack Ms. Pete's character and integrity," Megan's notion claimed.
Tory Lanz Convicted On Three Felony Charges
In 2022, Lanez was convicted on three felony charges: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. These charges stemmed from a 2020 incident in which Lanez shot Megan in the feet.
After a nine-day trial, on December 23, 2022, a jury in Los Angeles Superior Court delivered a unanimous verdict, finding the 31-year-old "Luv" singer Lanez guilty of assaulting 28-year-old Megan with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Tory Lanz Files An Appeal
In 2023, Lanez was sentenced to 10 years in prison and is currently serving his sentence at Tehachapi State Prison in California. "The jury got it right," Megan's lawyer Alex Spiro told PEOPLE at the time. "I am thankful there is justice for Meg."
In February 2024, Lanez filed an appeal seeking to overturn his conviction, arguing that, given these circumstances, a temporary restraining order is unnecessary. "He does not have possession of firearm and is unable to leave his current residence. Therefore, the incident alleged (which occurred 4.5 years ago) is no longer any form of current or future threat to the person seeking protection," Lanez's complaint states, per PEOPLE. "There has been no direct contact of any kind" from Lanez to Megan."
Lanez is scheduled to appear in court on January 9 for a hearing concerning the temporary restraining order.
