An outdoor space seems to be the biggest thing anyone’s appreciated since the 2020 start of the global pandemic. In London, U.K. searches for apartments or houses with gardens are up 99%, and it’s a similar deal across thousands of global cities where these days, even an indoor area dedicated to a little calming greenery is in demand. One trend, in particular, has experienced a 122% rise, with the lock-downs of bars, restaurants, pubs, and clubs likely responsible. Check it out below.
Scroll for photos and tips. A whopping 18 gardening trends have been identified for 2021, not limited to Beach Bar Gazebos, the Kardashian-adored hanging egg chair, rattan corner sofas, and home vegetable growing – the latter just got shown off celebrity-style as 38-year-old “American Idol” winner Carrie Underwood picked her own onions for a “yummy” dinner.
Soaring up 122% is the garden bar, a concept that brings in cheaper (home) drinks, an outdoor lounging experience, and zero need to travel to an establishment.

An outdoor bar may sound complex, but the cornerstone idea is simple. Wood accent furnishings, which can be formed from existing garden furniture help build up atmosphere, and a few hanging lanterns, fairy lights, and painted or metallic plant pots can add the finishing touches.
Anyone looking to line their stomach while they drink chilled garden wine might want to splash out on an outdoor pizza oven, another of 2021’s biggest trends. Searches for these babies spiked 243% in the past year alone.

Work From Home needn’t mean sharing the kitchen table rather awkwardly with a partner or co-habiter. Searches for outdoor garden office pods, up 174% since the pandemic, are an ideal way to WFH with a little calming scenery – in fact, experts are now weighing in on the mental health benefits of both gardening and a soothing outdoor space.
“Working in the dirt is a very centering activity that can help to pass the time, and watering is also a very zen and meditative practice,” psychologist Dr. Gregory Nawalanic Pys.D., a clinical psychologist says. More below.
If you once laughed at your grandparents gardening, think again as new research shows the simple activity boosts mental well-being just as much as an energetic walk. Per Bustle, an outdoor space with greenery can “lower symptoms of anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders.”
Anyone with a projector can try setting theirs up outdoors for a home cinema experience. A potted outdoor kitchen, which requires little more than cheap seedlings, a few tools, and a little time, is also a great option – you pick the veggies for the soup you can’t complain about.
