Fashion designer Michael Costello is used to drama. The 38-year-old California native experienced plenty of chaos during his stint on the eighth season of “Project Runway” and later on “Project Runway All Stars.” Despite not winning the reality competition, Costello has etched out a successful fashion design career. Some of his celebrity clients include: Jennifer Lopez, Cardi B, Beyonce, and Meghan Trainor.
Yet, as Costello’s career rose, he found himself in the midst of drama. Recently, Costello has came forward with allegations that model Chrissy Teigen bullied him. Costello claimed that Teigen’s harassment began back in 2014 after she mistakenly believed he made racist comments. Costello’s attempts to reach out to Teigen proved futile as the model vowed to destroy his career.
Costello’s Bullying Scandal
Costello’s allegations of bullying towards Teigen comes a month the Courtney Stodden scandal. The fashion designer decided it was time to tell his story about his run-in with Teigen. Costello tried to reach out to Teigen to set the record straight about the false racist allegations. However, Teigen didn’t listen, instead she vowed to ruin his career.
Teigen lived up to her word because shortly afterwards, Costello began losing jobs. The designer says he became depressed and had thoughts of suicide. Costello coming forward with his story is brave, however it’s also causing more drama for him.
Singer Leona Lewis is calling out Costello for his hypocrisy in the midst of Chrissy Teigen scandal. Lewis claimed that Costello himself is a bully and she was a victim of his. The “Bleeding Love” singer explains the incident happened during a charity fashion show in 2014.
She was set to model one of Costello’s dresses down the catwalk. Yet, when she arrived for the fitting, the dress was too small. Costello and his team reportedly refused to alter it for Lewis, and she was forced to withdraw from the show and sit in the audience. Lewis claimed the incident made her feel “very awkward and uncomfortable.”
Costello Responds To Lewis
After Lewis came forward with her bullying accusations, Costello was quick to respond. The designer took to Instagram where through a series of stories, he explained his side of the story. Costello started out saying that he reached out to Lewis privately without any luck, which lead him publicly share his story.
Costello recalls having a positive experience with Lewis during the Go Red Women Charity Show in 2014. He says he and Lewis had a wonderful time during the fitting and called her, “one of the most beautiful and talented women I know.” As for Lewis’ allegations that she felt humiliated for her size, Costello responded with “I don’t take accusations of body shaming lightly, as I have built a career as celebrating diverse women of all shapes and sizes.”
Costello was very remorseful in his written statement. At the close of his Instagram stories, he sent this message to Lewis, “If I have hurt you in 2014, and for whatever reason, you’ve continued to wear me and support me, please. I want to apologize to you.”
Doubts About Lewis’ Sincerity
Although, Lewis is earning praise for coming forward with her story about bullying and body shaming, there are some skeptics. In Costello’s apology, he mentioned that Lewis continued to work with him following the alleged 2014 incident. “You told me you absolutely loved the dresses, so much so that even after that event in 2014, you continue to wear and post me on your own IG in 2015.”
Costello posted photos of Lewis wearing his dresses and tagging him in Instagram posts. He also has messages from Lewis asking him to create a dress for her, the most recent request came last month. Although Costello is baffled over the situation with Lewis, he apologize if he offended and thanked her for her continued support. He ended his Instagram apology by writing, “whenever you’re ready. I’m here. Let’s have a heart-to-heart conversation. @leonalewis.”
No Response From Lewis
So far Lewis is staying quiet about Costello’s apology. Although, there are some inconsistencies in Lewis’ story, Costello is hoping the singer will reach out so they can settle this privately. Even though Lewis called out the “Project Runway” winner for his bullying, she did express sympathy for what he went through with Teigen.
The Chrissy Teigen scandal has been a hot button topic the past few weeks. It shows bullying can happen to anyone, especially celebrities. This could be only the tip of the iceberg in Hollywood as more celebrities come forward with their own bullying accusations.
