Rihanna has raised a massive “butt cleavage” debate as leggings from her best-selling Savage X Fenty brand cause a stir. The 33-year-old singer and clothing mogul is fresh from the launch of her Soft Mesh Open-Back Crotchless Legging, with users on TikTok seeming to have mixed views over the item that retails for $49.95. RiRi’s underwear brand, now capitalizing on the pandemic’s biggest loungewear trend, got even more press by virtue of the debate, but not everyone was for the revealing look. Check it out below.
Scroll for the photos. The leggings, which look pretty ordinary from the front, are quite the statement-maker from the back. The bottoms feature a crotch cutout and criss-cross banded detailing, rendering the wearer pretty exposed should they wish to go commando – that seems to be the point as social media users try the merch out. The product describes the butt-baring design as a “playful surprise.”
Over on TikTok, a user kicked things off by mentioning rival clothing brand Fabletics, asking: “Can someone at Fabletics tell me what this is?” Keep scrolling for them.
Since leggings are, these days, accompanied by the pandemic’s next-biggest trend (squatting), it seemed fitting that one user questioned if the pants are “squat proof.” Indeed, they seemed to think not. “How did that get approved?” a third asked, with one user rolling their eyes over the flesh-flashing finish as they wrote: “Every day we get further and further from the Lord.”
Over on the Savage website, 40 reviews so far leave the leggings an average four stars. Scroll for more photos after the leggings.
Savage X Fenty, valued at $1 billion this year, continues to see Rihanna topping her own mogul status, this as the “Work” singer’s net worth is reported to be $600 million. Rihanna, who has not released an album since 2016, has been releasing plenty else, though, topping buyer lists with her FENTY makeup range and newer Fenty Skin brand.
Savage, meanwhile, is doing the smartest around: namely, hiring high-profile celebrities including Megan Thee Stallion and Christina Milian, plus rapper Kash Doll and actress Sydney Sweeney as ambassadors. More photos below.
Rihanna, this year profiled by Vogue to talk business and expansion, hopped on a Zoom with the magazine to reveal what she herself has been wearing.
“Robes are my new uniform,” she said, laughing. “It’s comfortable, flexible, and easy. You can have thin ones, thick ones, why do anything else? You’re at home, no makeup, no weave. [I’m] chilling and doing what I have to do. Of course, I’ll put on clothes for a Zoom meeting every now and then.”
Also joining the Savage family this year is “Teen Mom” star Kailyn Lowry. See her undies snap below.
