Alesha Dixon is an English singer, rapper and performer, who gained prominence as a member of a trio group called Mis-Teeq in the early 2000s.
In 2005, after the group dismantled, she proceeded to continue a solo career and earned a name for herself in the music industry.
Although Dixon turned out to be a successful singer and television personality, things were not always rosy for her, especially at a young age.
Recently, she opened up about her childhood experiences, that have thankfully shaped her into the person, woman, and mother that she is today.

Dixon’s Early Life
The AGT judge was born in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England to a Jamaican father and English mother, on October 7, 1978.
The now 42-year-old singer lived with her mother, after her parents separation when she was only four years old.
She attended the Monk’s Walk School located in her birthplace, and after her college graduation, she wanted to become a PE teacher. Though she concluded a sports diploma course, there were other plan in store for her.
During one of her dance lessons, a talent scout recruited her for a group, which she agreed to. Ultimately, her career with Mis-Teeq began in 1999.
Growing Up In A Difficult Environment
After her parents divorced, Dixon went to live with her mother and her then boyfriend. In total, she has six half siblings, whom she doesn’t speak about till date.
At a young age, Dixon was exposed to domestic abuse against her mother, by her boyfriend, and this went on for a long time. She opened up about her ordeal in a 2010 documentary, when he described her family as ‘dysfunctional.’
“When I think about that time, I don’t remember living in harmony, I don’t remember any fun time, I suppose because the negativity has clouded it,” she said.
Dixon titled the BBC documentary, “Don’t Hit My Mum.”
The Woman She Is Today
Notwithstanding all she went through and saw at her young age, Dixon noted that she also experienced love from family members, and that everything was not always bad around her.
Speaking about her childhood trauma on Alice Liveing’s podcast, “Give Me Strength,” the America’s Got Talent judge said that she is doing everything she can to make sure her kids do not experience what he did.
She went on to say that she wants them to grow up feeling secure, as opposed to the insecurity she felt at a younger age.

Dixon was first married to Harvey from 2005 to 2006, and a decade later, she got married to dancer and actor, Azuka Ononye.
The couple seldom talk about their personal lives, but from what social media fans see through photos, they are a happy couple. The also share two beautiful daughters, Azura and Anaya.
Dixon is an advocate against domestic abuse, and uses her social media platforms to educate people on the dangers and long-lasting memories that emanate from such experiences.
She also serves as a patron for the African-Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT.)
