We are coming up on 10 years of the death of Amy Winehouse, and a lot of things remain unanswered from that day in July of 2011. Tyler James who was Amy’s best friend and roommate at the time of her death recalled the singer’s final days in a recent interview.
He shared a couple of details on the singer’s troubled past. Including how he and Winehouse had gotten into a major argument days before her death. This caused him to not be with her in her final moments.

The last argument that Tyler James would have with Whinehouse would be about the singer’s recent relapse. James said that the two shared the home in London where Amy ultimately passed away. However, he detailed why he wasn’t there on the day that she died. He remembered,
“Whenever she relapsed, Iâd leave because I was worried she would think I was supporting that. So Iâd leave.”
Although Tyler did not give out further details on the particular argument before Amy’s death, he said this was a constant in the later years of her life.
When Amy passed away the initial speculation was that her demise was due to a drug overdose. Ultimately an autopsy revealed that her death was due to alcohol poisoning.
According to Tyler James, there were letters from her doctors telling her that if she continued to drink she would die. She may have been able to deal with her drug usage problems. At least in the last 3 years of her life. According to James, she was clean in that department.
Tyler James confessed that even after almost 10 years of the death of Winehouse he’s still stricken with grief. One of the things that he will never be able to forget is the scene at their London home on the day that Amy died.
“It was like a film premiere out there,â he mentioned. While then going on to remember that the first thing he saw was the ambulance parked outside the house. As he came in he recalls paramedics in the hallway and Amy being carted out.
With Tyler James out of the house potentially the last person to speak to Winehouse was Dr. Christina Romete. She testified in court that she had gone over to Winehouse’s home the night before she passed away. She recalls that Amy was getting treatment to deal with abstinence symptoms. However, she refused psychological help because she felt it could hinder her creative process as a musician.
Dr. Romete recalls Winehouse telling her “I don’t want to die”. Her alcohol abuse and the effects of a long battle with bulemia would lead to the singer’s demise just a few hours after the doctor left her!
