Award winning and veteran actor, Michael Douglas is officially an empty nester.
Douglas is married to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and the couple share two children together.
They have a son named Dylan Michael Douglas (20), and a daughter named Carys Zeta Douglas (18).
Carys recently celebrated a major milestone, her high school by graduation, making Michael and Catherine official “empty nesters.”
While Michael may be one of the most recognizable faces in the world, he still gets mistaken for someone that he isn’t.
During a guest appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” , Michael detailed a hilarious and awkward moment that took place between him and his daughter, Carys.
As previously mentioned, Carys is an official high school graduate and on the big day “The Kominsky Method” actor was awkwardly mistaken for her grandfather and NOT her father.
He told Clarkson, “I gotta tell you, Kelly, it’s a little rough when you’re going out the doors and the other parents are saying, ‘Oh congratulations… you must be so proud of your granddaughter.’”
He explained the graduation was virtual given Covid-19 and the guidelines establishments are ordered to follow. So, his daughter graduated in a separate room that parents were not allowed in.
Talking about being mistaken for her grandfather, Michael shrugged it off saying, “’Well, I don’t know, man. Yeah, okay.’ I’m not gonna take it personal, they’re just trying to be nice.”
He shared a sweet note to his only daughter on Instagram writing, “Your Mom and I are so proud of you! We love you so much and we are so excited for your future as the best is yet to come! ❤️ Dad.”
Catherine shared the same photo and a similar sentiment. She captioned her Instagram post, “Carys!!! What a proud day as our daughter Carys graduates with honors for her International Baccalaureate! You rock and we love you. 👩🎓👩🎓👩🎓”
So how does Michael feel about having both kids out of the house?
He told Clarkson he and Catherine were preparing to embark on their empty nester journey, but then Covid hit and everyone was back home.
“When Covid happened, we had everyone back home this past year. But there is that moment, you know, when they’re gone and they’re out of the house and gone, and you look at each other and in the back of your mind you’re thinking, ‘Whoa, what are we gonna talk about?’”
Excitedly Clarkson said, “You get to date again, you get to date again!”
Not so enthusiastically he replied, “Yeah you can do all that but as a marriage so much of your time revolves around talking about your kids, you know. What they’re doing, how are they doing and this and that, so it’s an easy conversation.”
Not all hope is lost as Michael feels he and Catherine are going to do really well. Their suitcases are packed and planning to travel the next couple of years.
Let the party begin!
