YouTuber Shane Dawson has announced he will be making a return to YouTube despite his highly controversial past.
Shane and YouTube have been synonymous for over 15 years, but as of late the creator has been completely silent on the platform.
Over the past few years, he’s been plagued by controversy. Some emerging from his past which included him doing blackface, and more recently, controversy with other YouTubers.
The most recent involved him being “exposed” by Tati Westbrook for inciting ‘Dramageddon’ with Jeffree Star.
Shane took to Instagram on Wednesday, Jun 9, to update fans that he and his fiancé Ryland Adams made it out of the house for the first time in a long time.
The photo shows Shane and Ryland at a sunset dinner in a cabana overlooking the ocean.
He wrote, “Dads left the house. ❤️ Ps. I know I haven’t posted a video in a long time and I promise it’s not because I don’t want to. I’m just trying to stay in a good mindset and be happy.”
He continued to reassure fans he will NOT be leaving YouTube.
“I promise I’m not going to abandon my channel after 15 years of creating 🙏🏻 Just been re-evaluating my life the last year and figuring out what I want to do with it. Life is short and I’m grateful for every second of it. Hope you guys are doing well! I miss you! :,),” wrote Shane.
Despite not uploading to his personal YouTube channel in 11 months, Shane has made appearances in Ryland’s vlogs over the last year.
Shane’s last upload on June 26th was titled, “Taking Accountability.”
In the video he apologized for his past indiscretions, including using the racial slurs, blackface and joking about pedophilia.
Fans weren’t forgiving of him as #ShaneDawsonIsOverParty began trending on social media, and many believed that Shane no longer deserved to have the platform he does.
Even celebs like Jada Pinkett Smith and her son Jaden called Shane out for making derogatory gestures in a resurfaced video toward his sister Willow, who was a minor at the time.
Major brand deals even pulled out of their collaborations with Shane, including Target, who pulled all of Shane’s books, and Morphe Cosmetics who stopped carrying Shane and Jeffree’s Conspiracy palette.
This completely shook the YouTube community!
Given Shane’s recent post, it appears he will not be deterred from making a turn, triumphant or not.
