Prince Harry is a proud father of two, and he’s got the best of both worlds, a boy and a girl.
As the world knows, Harry and Meghan Markle welcomed their first-born son, Archie, in May 2019.
Nearly a year and a half later, Harry and Meghan announced they were expecting their second child in February.
The exciting news came after the Duchess of Sussex revealed she suffered a miscarriage in an ‘New York Times’ essay.
In the candid and vulnerable essay Meghan wrote, “Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few.”
At the time of their pregnancy announcement, a spokesperson for the couple told People, “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
News of their second child being a girl came out during their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Meghan waited for Harry to be in their presence before spilling the gender news to Oprah.
Meghan and Harry welcomed their daughter, Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, on Friday, June 4 at a Santa Barbara hospital near their home in Montecito, CA.
“She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe,” the couple said in a statement on Sunday. “Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
Their daughter’s first name is a tribute to the Queen whose nickname within the royal family is ‘Lilibet.’
‘Diana’ is a tribute to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, who tragically died in a car crash in 1997.
Sources tell PageSix, Harry always had plans to pay tribute to his mother with his future child’s name.
Per PageSix sources, “Harry had wanted to name his future daughter after his mom long before he met Meghan. Meghan was cognizant and fully supportive of that when they discussed potential names.”
According to reports, Harry & Meghan did not want the first name of their daughter to be ‘Diana’ as they feared it would attract too much attention making her a “bigger target for the media.”
Harry is not the first royal family member to name their child after Princess Diana.
Prince William, Harry’s older brother, also paid tribute to their late mother in his daughter’s name. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge named their daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
