Coldplay has been one of the most iconic and successful bands of this generation. The group originally formed in London back in 1996 and from that point, the rest was history. Coldplay has released eight studio albums, with their first one being “Parachutes” back in 2000, and the most recent being “Everyday Life,” in 2019. “Everyday Life” debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 chart. Over the years, one of their biggest key members has been Chris Martin, who is the lead singer for the band.
Coldplay Has Had Some Epic Collaborations
In addition to Coldplay having classic records and albums, they’ve had some impressive collaborations with other artists as well. One in particular is with the legendary Kanye West. One of these is for “Homecoming,” sessions, over 14 years ago. Coldplay was at Abbey Road Studios, where they did a show for BBC Radio 2. Kanye was in the crowd and also worked with Coldplay’s engineer, Simon Rhodes, that day. Later on, Kanye got Chris Martin to get on his “Homecoming” record.
Chris Martin Worked With Michael Stipe For Hurricane Katrina Relief
Another memorable collaboration for Coldplay‘s Chris Martin was back in 2006, which helped benefit relief for Hurricane Katrina victims, which devastated New Orleans in August 2005. Michael Stipe, who is a member of R.E.M., recorded Joseph Arthur’s “In The Sun” as a digital EP. The proceeds benefitted Mercy Corps’ efforts to help neighborhoods in New Orleans. Martin ended up appearing on one of the six versions of “In The Sun” and the track premiered on “Grey’s Anatomy.”
Chris Worked With Rihanna On ‘Princess Of China’ In 2011
Another epic collaboration that Martin was able to secure was with Rihanna back in 2011. This was for the song “Princess Of China.” That year, Coldplay put out their fifth studio album, “Mylo Xyloto.” The “Princess Of China” record with Rih ended up being one of the most popular records on this project, as it peaked at number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also went platinum in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Denmark, and Italy.
Coldplay Collaborated With Jay Z In 2008
Jay Z is also another name who worked with Coldplay, which was back in 2008, on their “Lost” remix.” The original version had done so well, cracking the Billboard Hot 100 chart, before adding the hip-hop legend. Martin has also had a very solid relationship with the Roc Nation boss. At the time, Martin was married to Gwyneth Paltrow, and the two were always in touch with Jay and Beyoncé. Martin added that he and Jay feel so relatable in that “he probably feels a bit like me and I probably feel a bit like him.” That relationship is one of many that Martin and Coldplay have built over the years, as they’ve already solidified themselves as one of the greatest bands ever.
