Today is National Best Friends Day and we’re breaking down some of Hollywood’s most surprising friendships.
As besties are honored around the world with gifts and fun celebrations, let’s look at which A-listers have close relationships that even many of their own longtime fans may not know about.
One recent BFF duo who recently made headlines is Courteney Cox and Ed Sheeran, who teamed up on a fun “Tony Danza” tribute video for Cox’s longtime friend and “Friends” co-star, Lisa Kudrow, earlier this month.

Ed Sheeran Once Lived For Free At Courteney Cox’s Malibu Home
Back in 2014, while working on his album, “X,” Sheeran lived rent-free at Cox’s Malibu home.
Then, after moving out, Sheeran said that while he didn’t pay any bills at the actress’ property, he did his best to be a good house guest.
“There was no rent but I made the bed and cups of tea and things like that. If you’re staying at your friend’s house, you should treat it like your own,” Sheeran told The Sun, via the Daily Mail.

Emma Stone And Jennifer Lawrence Were Introduced By A Mutual Co-Star
“I love Emma. She cracks me up; she’s so ‘theater.’ She’s adorable,” Lawrence told Glamour in 2016.
“We both really do love each other and care about each other as people, beyond being actors,” Stone told Vanity Fair that same year. “I support her completely when it comes to work and I feel the same from her, but I know we’d be friends even if we didn’t do the same job.”
Ben Affleck And Matt Damon Have Been Friends Since High School
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon started their friendship when they attended high school together in Massachusetts, as
“We grew up together….We were both in love with the same thing—acting and filmmaking. I think we fed on each other’s obsession during really formative, important years and that bonded us for life,” Damon told Entertainment Tonight in 2016.
The following year, Affleck told the same outlet, “I can’t tell you how valuable it is to have somebody who’s been through things with you, ups and downs, who knows what your life experience is like, who can identify with that.”
Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz Share A Decades-Long Friendship

They also appeared alongside one another on the small screen when Cruz pranked Hayek on MTV’s “Punk’d.”
During a 2011 interview with Vogue, Hayek said of her longtime BFF, “The best thing about Penelope’s sense of humor is that it’s primarily about herself.”
