Jesy Nelson has officially made her solo debut!
After breaking free from British girl group Little Mix in December 2020, Nelson has been hard at work creating a name for herself as a solo artist.
As many fans of Little Mix, aka ‘Mixers,’ know Nelson made the shocking announcement right before the holidays.
In a December 14th post Nelson explained to fans her reason for quitting Little Mix.
She wrote, “The past nine years in Little Mix has been the most incredible time in my life. We have achieved things I never thought possible. … The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl band and living up to expectations very hard.”
Jesy continued on saying, “There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focusing on making other people happy and I feel like now is the time to begin that process.”
So after “much time and consideration and with a heavy heart” she announced her departure from Little Mix.
She added that she’d be embarking on a new chapter of her life, but was unsure of what that looked like.
Well by late February Nelson was back in her “happy place,” the recording studio.
Her quick move back into the studio shocked Little Mix fans and the remaining three women of the group.
After Nelson’s departure, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, confirmed they would continue Little Mix as a trio.
The ladies have been highly successful since Nelson’s exit.
They took home their second-ever Brit Award in May, and made history while doing so. This marked the first time ever a female group took home the Brit Award for “British Group.”
However, the girls did feel insulted by Jesy’s leaving and quick solo-career launch.
According to MirrorUK, “The remaining three members of Little Mix feel ‘slighted’ by Jesy Nelson as she reportedly wants to ‘sever ties’ with the group after starting out with her solo career.”
A source close to Nelson revealed to MirrorUK that she hadn’t spoken to any of her former bandmates for several months and has no plans to in the future.
It seems she wanted a clean start away from the girl group, and now she’s done just that.
On Wednesday, June 2nd, Nelson gave fans a sneak peek at her new music. The snippet was only six-seconds long, but it was enough to get a feel for what this new era of Nelson and her music will be.

What vibe do you think Nelson will serve up? We’re getting ominous jazz with an ounce of angst.
In May, Jesy signed her first-ever solo record deal with Polydor Records. The announcement comes just six months after bidding adieu to her former girl group.
She wrote on Instagram, “So excited to announce that I’ve signed my first ever solo record deal with @polydorrecords @universalmusicgroup
This is such a pinch me moment. I cannot wait for you guys to hear what I’ve been working on 🙊❤️.”
We’ve gotten a taste, now give us the whole dang meal!
