Lorde is one of the music industry’s top rising stars. The 24-year-old New Zealand native burst into the US pop charts back in 2013 with the release of her debut album “Pure Heroine.” The singer was only 16-years-old at the time of its release, but quickly became a breakthrough star. The album earned her critical praise thanks to hits such as “Royals.” It also earned her numerous awards and “Pure Heroine” would go on to be certified triple Platinum.
It’d take a while for Lorde to release her second studio album. “Melodrama” was released in the summer of 2017, and like her first album, this one was a critical and commercial success. Critics gave “Melodrama” four and five star ratings, and the album would go on to be certified Gold.
‘Royals’ Was A Disaster
“Royals” is the first single from Lorde’s debut album. Lorde wrote the song herself, and many interpret the lyrics to be about the luxury lifestyle of the upper class. Upon its release, the song became a critical and commercial hit.
Although, the song became a number one hit on Billboard and earned Lorde two Grammys, she doesn’t share others enthusiasm for “Royals.” In a past interview, Lorde once referred to her hit song as disastrous. “I listen to people covering the song and putting their own spin on it – and I listen to it in every single form except the original one I put out – and I realize that actually it sounds horrible,” the singer explained.
Teases Upcoming Album
It’s been over four years since the release of Lorde’s last album. But the singer is hinting that album number three is on the way. According Lorde, the album had been in the works since 2020, but setbacks postponed recording.
Aside from the pandemic halting production, Lorde also took time off to mourn the loss of her beloved dog Pearl. Lorde wrote a statement updating fans about the status of her record. “So I’m asking for your patience, as 2020 comes around and you start to wonder where the next record is. I have lost my boy, and I need some time to see the good again, to finish making this for you,” the singer wrote.
After a break, Lorde was ready to head back to the studio. Collaborating with Lorde on her upcoming album is musician and songwriter Jack Antonoff, who previously worked with her on “Melodrama.” Although, no details about the album’s name or tracks have been revealed, but the record is expected to be released in 2021.
Twitter Fans Excited
News of Lorde’s upcoming album has her loyal fans excited. Twitter is already buzzing about the album as fans express their anticipation. One user wrote “lorde is coming” multiple times while sharing a Spongebob meme.
Meanwhile, another user wrote, “who cares if the album is good, will lordes next album cover be as good as melodramas????” Although, it’s been four years since her last record release, Lorde has continued to remain popular with fans. A fan account called LordeAnalytics posted an incredible fact about the singer, “@Lorde has gained over 357 MILLION streams on Spotify in 2021 despite not releasing a single song since 2017.”
Anticipation Growing For Lorde
Although details about album number three are being kept under wraps, fans feel the record’s coming soon. Recently. Lorde was announced as one of the performers for the 2022 Primavera Sound festival, which takes place next summer. The festival’s website seemed to confirm that Lorde’s next album is on the way.
In the lineup for the festival, a statement had this to say about the “Royals” singer. “Lorde, who will emerge from her retirement with her third album after her unforgettable visit in 2018,” the description read. With Primavera seemingly confirming Lorde’s new record is coming, fans are patiently awaiting for the album to drop. Until then, they’ll have to listen to her past records as they welcome back the singer.
