Salma Hayek is a Mexican American actress and producer, best known for her role in the 2002 biographical drama “Frida.”
Hayek got her start in the telenova “Teresa,” and was later nominated for an Ariel Award for her role in the film “El Callejón de los Milagros,” also known as “Miracle Alley.”
The 54-year old actress loves to show off her style for her 17.9 followers on Instagram, but there is one fashion trend that she started that she never quite got credit for!
Oscar Vibe
Hayek has over three decades of experience getting ready for the red carpet, and it seems that she has the right dress for every occasion.
The “Hitman’s Bodyguard” actress has worn it all, from glamorous couture gowns to little black dresses, usually paired with a matching clutch bag.
One of her most timeless looks was a lacy black Alexander McQueen dress she wore for the Academy Awards in 2017.
Major Style
One particular red carpet look that Hayek never quite got credit for was adding a tiara to her ensemble.
In a recent interview, she explained, “I decided I wanted to wear a tiara and everybody told me I was crazy and it was ridiculous and it was gonna be pretentious and everybody tried to convince me not to do it, like my manager, my stylist, my publicist and I wore the tiara anyway and you know what happened? Everybody started wearing a tiara after that, and it never got credit for that trend, never ever, ever, ’cause I was kind of an unknown.”
A Trendsetter
The tiara made quite a splash at the 1997 Oscars, which complimented Hayek’s striking up-do and shimmering pearl dress, which she matched with dangling earrings.
She had arrived with Mexican singer Luis Miguel to introduce Kenny Loggins before his performance of “For the First Time,” which had been nominated for Best Original Song.
Although Elizabeth Taylor was officially credited as the first one to wear a tiara at the 1957 Cannes Film Festival, Hayek definitely brought the trend into the modern era.
A Timeless Accessory
The next person to don the tiara after Hayek was Scarlett Johansson at the 2005 Oscars.
She was followed by Deepika Padukone at the 2017 Met Gala, which was followed up by Sienna Miller at the same event the following year.
Although tiaras are now seen as a timeless accessory, we have Hayek to thank for bringing it into the folds of fashion once again.
