In the words of Steve Carrell… Ahhhh Kelly Clarkson! It hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s likely exactly what Ellen DeGeneres shouted when it was officially announced that The Kelly Clarkson Show would be moving into the Ellen show timeslot.
NBC has wasted no time in announcing the change in their programming. Even though Ellen is not set to leave the airwaves until 2022. There are a couple of good reasons why the company has decided to announce the change right now. Instead of waiting around until Ellen was almost set to leave the air.
There are a couple of reasons why it made sense to make the move this early. Also, even though there was plenty of speculation as to who would take the slot Kelly was the natural pick.
One of the main reasons it makes sense to announce the switch early is that it gives the team on the Kelly Clarkson show enough time to start looking for better sponsors for her new time slot. Something that Ellen’s show was having trouble with in the last few years!
In making this decision it seems pretty clear that NBC is trying to make things easier on themselves. For one, Kelly is under contract with the company through 2023. This means she’ll get at least about a year to see if she can fill Ellen’s shoes.
Of course, The Kelly show already has a set format that it can directly translate into the new time slot. If they picked anyone else for the gig they would have to develop a show from scratch. Some people may be surprised though because the Kelly Clarkson show only has 2 seasons under its belt. Not a lot to be thrown into the best daytime slot on T.V.!
Kelly Clarkson’s show has some of the same features that people have grown accustomed to with Ellen. Viewers are still going to get a chance to see Kelly interview different celebrities. Very much in the way that Ellen has done for many years. Hopefully without some of the cringe-worthy moments that we got on later episodes of the Ellen Show.
Also, Clarkson is known for boasting her singing talents on the show as well! She has sung covers for all sorts of different songs in the short-lived time of the show! The Kellyoke segment of the show is hugely popular with people who loved her on American Idol.
Is this going to be the last year of Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways? Well, it very much looks like it. Ellen is set to be going off the air right around the summertime or even a little before in 2022. She usually took time off the show regularly anyway during this time. Next year though she won’t be coming back.
Therefore, this year will most likely mark the last of Ellen’s 12 Days of Giveaways. It’s unclear at this moment whether some of these “special events” will be incorporated into Clarkson’s show in some way.
