The 2021 Billboard Music Awards took place in Los Angeles outside of Staples Center on Sunday, and it was a hell of a show. There were performances by The Weeknd, SZA, Doja Cat, and more along with other stars making history with their victories. Coming into the night, The Weeknd had the most nominations with 16 and fans expected him to win big after shockingly not being nominated at all for the GRAMMYs back in March. The Canadian superstar did just that on Sunday night.
The Weeknd Secured 10 BBMAs Wins On Sunday
The Weeknd ended up winning 10 out of the 16 BBMAs he was nominated for, which wasn’t a surprise based on the epic 2020 that he had. Among the awards that he won this year are Top Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Male Artist, and Top Hot 100 Song. In 2020, The Weeknd had another number one album with “After Hours,” which included two Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping singles in “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless.” Blinding Lights also ended up being the biggest Hot 100 hit this century.

DaBaby Had The Second Most BBMAs Nominations
DaBaby had the second most BBMA nominations this year, with 11 in total. This came after he was very successful in 2020 with the release of his second album “Blame It On Baby.” His “Rockstar” single featuring Roddy Ricch also hit the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. DaBaby ended up adding BBMA wins on Sunday night in the category for Top Rap Song and Top Streaming Song. “Rockstar” was the record that won there and beat out contenders such as Cardi B‘s “WAP” feat. Megan Thee Stallion and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage.”
Pop Smoke Scored Four Posthumous Wins
The late Pop Smoke also won big, as he earned four posthumous BBMAs wins, These were in the categories of Top Billboard 200 Album, Top New Artist, and Top Rap Artist. Smoke put out his “Meet The Woo 2” mixtape in 2020, 12 days before his murder. His posthumous debut studio album, “Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon,” was then released in the summer. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum. On Sunday night, it also won the Top Billboard 200 Album award.
Drake Won ‘Artist Of The Decade’ Award
Drake also scored two wins at the 2021 BBMAs, which were for Artist Of The Decade as well as Top Streaming Songs Artist. Many agreed that Drake was definitely the artist of the decade as every album he released debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and has produced a countless number of platinum records as well as very successful tours. Drake is also viewed as arguably the biggest artist of this generation. When accepting the award on Sunday night, he was joined on stage with his 3-year-old son, Adonis.
