“Pretty Little Liars” star Shay Mitchell is finally feeling strong again after the birth of her daughter Atlas Noa, who turned one in October 2020.
She’s gracing the cover of the June 2021 issue of Women’s Health and has shared her post-partum journey, explaining why she felt it was okay to give fitness a break, and how rdeveloping a routine has made her to her strongest yet.
And there have been challenges in between, considering the pandemic but Mitchell has come through. So here goes her post-baby fitness journey…
Shay Wanted To Be Strong Again
The 34-year-old Canadian actress can now be seen in the Hulu comedy series “Dollface” along with Kat Dennings and has become quite the Instagram influencer with a 30-million strong following.
In her relationship with Canadian actor Matte Babel, Mitchell suffered a miscarriage in 2018 before having Atlas. While she was over the moon at the birth of her daughter, she also admitted that after having Atlas she did not quite feel like herself anymore. One of the reasons was a lack of strength.
Here’s Shay with her “familia”.
A New Fitness Program ‘Changed Everything’
In January 2021, Shay started using Openfit’s at-home fitness program and committed to working out five days a week for four weeks.
According to Shay, it changed everything for her. She told Women’s Health, “I had way more energy; I don’t have five cups of coffee anymore. I can sound preachy when I’m talking about it, but it totally altered my year.”
In the program, Trainer Kelsey Heenan guided Shay (and her friend, Stephanie) through a series of cardio and strength training.
The results are stunning.
Side By Side, Before & After
Shay recently posted a before and after pic, the first one being before she took up Openfit’s four-week challenge and then how she looked after completing it.
She wrote, “2020 was the year of searching for something to make us feel good… For me, that came in the form of comfort food, comfortable clothes, and throwing my fitness routine out the window.”
But then she continued saying that come 2021, she decided to do it differently, saying, “I wanted to focus on myself again because I’m the best version of myself for Atlas – and everyone else – when I take care of myself first.”
And all fans can say is Hubba, Hubba!
Shay Feels Women Should Celebrate Bodies
Mitchell also felt that the way women celebrate their bodies after birthing a baby, the same way they should also celebrate by being the best version of themselves.
Her fans appreciate the real pics and heartfelt inspiration behind them. As one commented, “Thank you for sharing this. I’m a mommy-to-be and can’t help think of how my body is going to look post-pregnancy. You look great! Thanks for the inspiration. ?”
