The interview that Princess Diana gave to the BBC’s Panorama in 1995 shocked the world. This was the interview where Diana uttered the famous phrase, “Well, there were 3 of us in the marriage, so it was a bit crowded”.
Of course, the line referred to Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles now the Duchess of Cornwall. New revelations seem to indicate that Diana was blackmailed into agreeing to the interview. This has Prince William irate. The Duke of Cambridge gave an out-of-character response to the new allegations.
A BBC investigation concluded that there were plenty of irregularities and “dirty tactics” used by the Panorama team to secure the interview. There was one key element in the findings that Earl Spencer, Diana’s brother, believes ultimately pushed her over the edge and made her agree to the interview.
Diana was allegedly shown false bank statements that were meant to show that two palace staffers were being paid to spy and gather information on the Princess. This ultimately led Diana to decide it was better for her to come out and directly talk about her side of the story.
It’s not like the royals to respond directly to this type of scandal. If they would respond to every issue that the family faces they would have to hold press conferences every day. Which, seems to be the way that Prince Harry goes about his life these days.
This time though Prince William made an exception and directly commented on the findings. He mentioned that the interview caused more strain on his parent’s relationship. Hinting that it may have been the straw that broke the camel’s back!

While this was going on in the UK back in California Prince Harry still seems to think that the world revolves around him! In footage for the first episodes of “The Me You Can’t See”, a series that focuses on mental health produced by Prince Harry and Oprah, Harry fires even more criticism towards his family.
While taking a break from bashing the family Harry found some time to write up a statement about the findings of the investigation. In it, he directly blames his mother’s demise on these types of practices.
It seems he’s still blind to the similarities with his own personal path!

One of the most shocking parts of William’s statement may be the part where he talks about how long the deception took to see the light of day. He mentioned that if these practices were revealed in 1995 Diana would have understood that she was being played.
Instead in his view, the way that the interview was obtained influenced what his mother ultimately said. Also, he mentioned that the interview “holds no legitimacy, and should never be aired again”.
Does this count as using “cancel culture” for a good cause?
