Lewis Hamilton is held in high regard in the racing world. He was the first black driver to begin racing in Formula One back in 2007 and is credited for bringing greater attention to the sport. The 36-year-old social media influencer now has 22.3 million Instagram followers and lives a lifestyle that keeps him ever in the spotlight.
He is also known for his social activism. Recently, he sat down and had an interview shortly after the beginning of the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix where he spoke about racial diversity in the sport.

Purple Helmet
To preface his interview, it should be noted that the racing champion has backed his political and social-reform beliefs by incorporating a new design to his racing outfit.
A brand new black helmet with purple accents was revealed on his Instagram account, and many believe this was a direct tribute towards the Black Lives Matter movement. (With his previous helmet designs often showing brighter colors)
The timing of this post comes right after sharing his views on the racial diversity in the sport.

‘Real Possibility’
During the aforementioned interview, Lewis shared that he is also in support of women becoming more involved in racing, even as engineers.
“What I want to see is just creating opportunities for people like what you saw in Austria, for example, a young black girl on the podium for the first time in 70 years. That created awareness. Young black girls and girls in general saw that that’s an actual real possibility to go into becoming an engineer.”
He went on to share that he believes more opportunities like this can be cultivated.
‘Really Proud Of My Team’
“There was a lot of great discussion around this diversity issue. It still remains an issue to this day and it’s not going to change overnight, but what’s really important is to make sure that we are actually delivering and actually taking action.”
He mentioned that he is incredibly grateful and proud of his team for supporting change in the sport and for helping him become the champ he is today. More and more fans are rallying behind his resolute stance towards racial change.
“I’m really really proud of my team.”
Growing Trend
As more celebrities become involved in their support for racial reform, the message of change has saturated news outlets, social media, and even television on an international scale.
Some wonder what it really looks like to see a lasting change for more and more minorities to gain better levels of living and opportunities.
Singer songwriter superstar Sia actually shared her thoughts about this a while back. Heck, she even took her legendary wig off to the world for the occasion!
