Zack Snyder‘s latest is “Army of the Dead”, due to open on Netflix on May 21, 2021; and the zombie heist movie is rather pertinent, although while the world is still struggling with the Coronavirus pandemic we aren’t turning into zombies. Yet.
Getting back the movie, it boasts an all-star cast that truly crosses borders. So there’s all-American Dave Bautista, Brit actress Ella Purnell, Japan’s Hiroyuki Sanada, and from India, as in Bollywood, there’s Huma Qureshi.
So who is Huma Qureshi and what is her claim to fame? Let’s find out…
From Food To Bollywood
34-year-old Huma Qureshi is the daughter of a successful restaurateur, Saleem Qureshi, who runs the chain “Saleems”, serving Indian-Mughlai style food in New Delhi, India.
Her brother is Saqib Saleem, a Bollywood actor who has some films and series to claim as well.
After doing theatre in Delhi during her college days, she moved to Mumbai and was cast in some TV ads before getting her break in a Bollywood romance movie, “Love, Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana”.
She also has several nominations and wins to her name.
She Blew Zack Snyder Away With Her Talent
She also has the movie “Gangs of Wasseypur” to her credit, a violent drama about crime in the Indian state of Bihar that won much acclaim in India for its gritty portrayal of characters.
Her first International film was “Viceroy House”, made by Indian-British filmmaker, Gurinder Chadha.
After Zack Snyder saw her work, he was so blown away that media reports stated he said, “I want only Indian actors in my movies from now on.” Apparently, Snyder thought she was amazing and he was thrilled when she agreed to do the film.

Huma Plays Geeta In The Movie
Unlike getting a non-Indian actress to play an Indian, or vice versa, the role of Geeta in the “Army of the Dead” was meant to be portrayed an Indian and Snyder was looking for someone from Bollywood to play the role.
The casting director of the movie suggested Qureshi’s name to Snyder who felt that she was amazing. Since she was written as an Indian character, things just clicked.
Seems Huma feels the same way too as she referred to the movie as “this genius man’s vision” and then tagged Snyder as “friend forever”.
The Two Get Together For Philanthropy Too
The professional relationship between the two has now given way to respect and friendship, enough for Snyder to pitch in with Qureshi, to help Delhi fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, India is in the grips of an ever-growing second wave that is seeing more than 400,000 infections on a daily basis.
So Qureshi and Snyder have gotten together with NGO Save The Children and are helping build a temporary 100-bed hospital to pitch in however they can. And Snyder is only too happy to tweet about it…
