YouTuber turned late-night talk show host, Lilly Singh, announced some sad news to her fans this week.
Lilly Singh’s late-night show, “A Little Late with Lilly Singh” is coming to an end after two years.
The NBC-based late-night talk show made history as Lilly was the first openly bisexual woman, and the only Indian and South Asian person in America to host a late night talk show. Not only did this show diversify late night TV, it also gave 21 people their late night debut.
‘A Little Late’ currently airs weeknights at 1:35 a.m., following ‘Tonight’ with Jimmy Fallon and ‘Late Night’ with Seth Meyers.
Lilly was able to get two seasons under her belt prior to the announcement.
She took to Instagram to announce the show would be coming to an end writing, “Two years ago, I embarked on the wild journey of late night TV. I know this show was more than me, and I will be forever grateful for the opportunity and support. Today, I write to you from a similar place of deep gratitude to share some news.”
Her post continued, “I’m going to focus on the slate of projects my company Unicorn Island Productions is developing, and we’re saying goodbye to A Little Late With Lilly Singh. I have a desire to make longer form content telling underrepresented stories, which is difficult to execute on a nightly show.”
While the news shocked her fanbase, she did have some good news to announce as well.
Lilly announced that while the door to ‘A Little Late’ is closing, two massive doors are opening for her at NCBCUniversal & Netflix!
Her post revealed quote, “I’m thrilled to share that NBCUniversal and I have taken the next step in our relationship by signing a first look deal between Universal Television Alternative Studio and Unicorn Island Productions. I’m excited about bringing even more diversity to screen in an even bigger way.”
Oh, but the good news didn’t stop there!
Lilly revealed that she is developing a comedy project with Netflix as well.
Her announcement post was met with absolute love & support.
“Queer Eye” star Tan France commented, “Woohoo. Such great things coming for you, and I couldn’t be happier about it! Yay for greater representation!!”
The Merrell twins wrote, “Congratulations on your new projects! You continue to inspire us.❤️❤️????”
Jerry Ferrara, famously known for his role as ‘Turtle’ in “Entourage” threw some fire emojis her way and topped it off with “wow. Congrats.”
There is definitely more where these comments came from, and given the power moves Lilly’s been making big things are definitely coming her way!
