Katy Perry Joins Fight To Collect Vital Supplies For COVID-19 Disaster In India

Katy Perry is joining the fight to collect vital supplies for hospitals in India after the COVID-19 outbreak is hitting record numbers and devastating the country's citizens.

The 'American Idol' judge took to Instagram and asked her 116 MILLION followers to help donate to the cause -- including the purchase of vital supplies like oxygen, and equipment to help patients breathe.

The charity 'Oxygen for India' emergency appeal has a goal of $ 2 Million and is currently about half a million pounds short of its goal.

You may have heard about the devastation the pandemic is having in India right now: Each day a new world record is set for the number of Covid cases (386,453 JUST TODAY according to @NPR) with the peak still to come. Hospitals have stopped admitting patients because they are running low on vital supplies and equipment, including oxygen, leaving people to watch loved ones die on stretchers outside the hospital doors," she wrote.

The singer shared the link on Instagram, where fans can donate to the cause.

"You will have seen in the news and your social media feeds, the devastation the pandemic is having in India right now. Daily COVID-19 cases are the highest on record for any country at any point during the pandemic - and the worst still to come," the charity's website says.

Adding, "Families cannot get treatment for their loved ones and the lockdown continues to impact livelihoods, education, and mental health."

On Friday, President Joe Biden announced the U.S. would issue new travel restrictions on anyone traveling from India -- barring most non-U.S. citizens from entering the United States.
