Kanye West has always been dominant in the world of fashion. He’s had endorsement deals with Nike and currently, Adidas. Ye even has a 10-year deal with GAP that he locked in last summer. The resale market is still hot for his older sneakers and one in particular is the Air Yeezy 1 Nike sneakers that he was wearing in his performance at the 2008 GRAMMYS.
According to TMZ, these recently hit a private auction and hit a record sale for a pair of sneakers.
Air Yeezy Sneakers Sell For $1.8 Million
The Air Yeezy 1 sneakers are confirmed by Sotheby’s to have been sold for $1.8 million. During Kanye’s performance at those 2008 GRAMMYs, he performed hits such as “Hey Mama” and his 2007 smash hit single, “Stronger.” The $1.8 sale also reportedly breaks the record for for the title of the most expensive pair of sneakers ever sold. The previous one was $615,000 for the 1985 Nike Air Jordan 1s that Michael Jordan wore during a preseason NBA game in Italy.
An Investment Marketplace Was Who Purchased The Yeezy Sneakers
Many wonder who was able to get their hands on these extremely rare Yeezy Nike sneakers. According to TMZ, it turned out to be RARES, who is a sneaker investment marketplace. At this point, the price for these Yeezy sneakers will likely increase due to the high demand in value that it contains. Kanye and Mark Smith originally designed these sneakers together back in 2008 and it ended up receiving high praise during Kanye’s Grammy performance that year.

Kanye Partnered With Balenciaga For DMX Tribute Shirts
Multiple DMX memorials were held in New York City over the weekend as the late hip-hop legend was honored. In addition to these services, Kanye also got together with Balenciaga to create DMX tribute shirts. They were retailed at $200 each and sold out in minutes. DMX’s face was on the front as on the sleeves, his birthday along with the date of his passing was shown as well. The profits were sent to DMX’s family as $1 million was earned in total.
