Lil Nas X has been creating a lot of controversy over the past month and it is partly due to his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” single that was released in late March. People loved the record but the music video threw everyone off as he was seen twerking on Satan in it. Many wondered why this was even a concept but others believed that Nas X was trolling people who don’t like the fact that he is a gay man.
Nas X Speaks On Twitter Regarding Those Who Say He Is ‘Milking’ The Single
On Thursday, the Atlanta native took to his Twitter feed to speak to people who believe he is “milking” the “Montero” at this point. Nas X explained that he is the same artist who remixed his 2019 breakout hit single, “Old Town Road,” so many times when it was originally released. Therefore, he does not care about the criticism at all.
“Y’all sitting here telling me i’m “milking the song” like I’m not the same n*gga who remixed a song for 10 months. I do not care bro.”
‘Montero’ Became The No. 1 Song In The US
A week after “Montero’s initial release at the end of last month, it did huge numbers and soon became the No. 1 song in the United States on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Many believe that this was due to the controversial music video as well as Nas X selling his Nike Air Maz 97 “Satan Shoes” with MSCHF. Those sneakers ended up being unauthorized as MSCHF was hit with a trademark infringement lawsuit by Nike, which ended up being settled last week.
Nas X Feared That ‘Montero’ Would Be Removed From Streaming Services This Week
Earlier this week, Nas X also took to Twitter to voice concern that “Montero” would not be available to be streamed. He didn’t provide much clarity as to why this would be the case, though. Nas X did encourage fans to screen record the audio or music video on YouTube in the worst case scenario. Columbia Records also confirmed that this is an issue but for many people, Montero is still available for their streaming apps such as Apple Music and Spotify.
‘Montero’ Continues To Dominate On The Charts
Controversy definitely sells for Nas X. Currently, “Montero” stands at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The top spot was overthrown by Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak’s “Leave The Door Open.” Montero ended up being Nas X’s second No. 1 song in two years as the “Old Town Road” single featuring Billy Ray Cyrus also achieved this mark back in the spring of 2019. Nas X also has his debut album arriving this summer which is titled “Montero: The Album” as of now.
