Thanks to the FX documentary “Framing Britney Spears,” viewers got a glimpse into the hardships of Britney’s life. The documentary was so moving that celebs such as Miley Cyrus and Sarah Jessica Parker are joining the #FreeBritney campaign. However, there’s one celebrity who hasn’t seen the documentary, and has no interest watching it.
Premise Of ‘Framing Britney Spears’
“Framing Britney Spears” was released on February 5th and immediately generated a lot of buzz. The documentary showcases Spears rise to stardom as a teen pop star, and the 2007 breakdown that led to her conservatorship.
Britney’s life has been the focus of the tabloids since her debut on the music scene in 1999. The perky teen quickly shot to super stardom, yet as she soon found out, fame comes with a price. Throughout her career, Spears was under constant media scrutiny. Every moment, whether good or bad was reported in the press.
Following her infamous 2007 breakdown, Britney was placed in a conservatorship under her father Jamie’s care. Although, Britney is doing better now, she remains under her father’s control. Reports about Jamie’s behavior, including exploiting money from his pop star daughter has been a cause for concern. Britney’s fans are continuing with their #FreeBritney movement, which has gained more supporters since the documentary.
Why Jessica Won’t Watch It?
Although, most of Hollywood was eager to watch “Framing Britney Spears,” singer Jessica Simpson won’t be one of those viewers. The pop star turned fashion designer says she refuses to watch the documentary, and she has a very good reason.
During a recent appearance on “The Tamron Hall Show,” discussion turned to the Britney Spears documentary. Simpson explained that if she were to watch the show, it’d serve as a “trigger.” The 40-year-old says she empathizes with Britney because she herself faced scrutiny from the media. Simpson went on to explain that watching the documentary would be reliving memories of her own difficult times.
90s Pop Star To Reality Show Darling
Like Spears, Simpson became a pop sensation during the ’90s and into the 2000s. Simpson had tough competition from fellows singers such as Spears and Christina Aguilera. Although she may not have garnered as much attention, Simpson still had her share of fans.
Simpson’s relationship with 98 Degrees member Nick Lachey turned her into a media sensation. The couple married in October 2002, and shortly afterward became reality TV stars with the MTV show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.” The show gain popularity with Simpson’s often ditzy behavior. One famous scene had her asking Nick if Chicken of the Sea was chicken or fish.
Jessica’s popularity soared and she soon tried her hand at acting. In 2005, she landed the role of Daisy Duke in the “Dukes of Hazzard” film. Aside from acting, she also launched her own clothing line. Yet, as Simpson’s fame grew, her marriage to Lachey started to unravel, and the two divorced in December 2005.
Media Scrutiny
As with all celebrities, Simpson wasn’t spared from media scrutiny. She’s faced plenty of criticism over the years. During her divorce from Nick Lachey, the public seemed to side with him more than her. To make matters worse, rumors swirled that Simpson had an affair with her “Dukes of Hazzard” co-star Johnny Knoxville.
Following her divorce from Lachey, Simpson would go on to date singer John Mayer and NFL player Tony Romo. In 2014, she would marry former football player Eric Johnson, with whom she has three children.
Aside from her dating life, Simpson has also come under fire for her weight. In 2009, the media blasted Simpson for wearing what appeared to be mom jeans during a concert. The unflattering image sparked discussion about Simpson’s weight, and according to the singer she felt insecure reading the body-shaming comments.
