Kelly Ripa got to live out every child’s fantasy when she opened wide to take a mouthful of icing while frosting a cake with the legendary “Cake Boss.”
Buddy Valastro was one of the guests on “LIVE With Kelly and Ryan” this week as the iconic cake master came on the show to discuss the brutal injury he suffered last September that put his cake-making career on hold while he endured multiple surgeries and nursed his hand back to health.
It was a big day for 44-year-old Buddy Valastro, who now owns and operates the legendary Carlo’s Bakery with multiple locations around the United States, including New Jersey and Las Vegas.
For his cake demonstration, Buddy brought along his famous Carlo’s Rainbow Cake, which is comprised of 6-layers of vanilla-flavored rainbow cake with frosting and sprinkles. Buddy split the process in half for the co-hosts, with Ryan Seacrest tasked with building the cake layers and Kelly coming in at the end to frost the entire thing.
During his moment to shine, Ryan Seacrest was less than stellar while showing off his cake-making skills. Even with one working hand, Buddy Valastro ran circles around the “American Idol” host while assembling his cake. Ryan’s turn came to an end after he spun the cake off the table and onto the floor … but luckily it was still good!
When it was Kelly’s turn to ice the cake, she did not disappoint by immediately turning the massive icing bag upside down and taking a mouthful of sugar.

It has been a long road of recovery for the “Cake Boss” after he suffered a gruesome accident at his home in New Jersey. Buddy explained that during a family bowling session, he went to fix the pin-feeding machine and ended up getting trapped with a metal “fork” punctured all the way through his hand.
After 4 surgeries, Buddy showed that he is now able to make a fist with his hand, and even has aspirations of bowling in the future.
As for his time away from the bake shop, the “Cake Boss” revealed that Kelly and Ryan played a huge part while he was recovering at home.
