Lil Nas X has been part of a lot of controversy on social media over the last few weeks. It all started after releasing the music video for his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” single. There, he shocked viewers by twerking on Satan. That sparked a lot of debate on if Nas X was glorifying Satan but others saw it as trolling people who don’t like that he’s openly gay. He also released his custom Nike Air Max 97 “Satan Shoes” with MSCHF, which Nike didn’t authorize and is now handing down a trademark infringement lawsuit.
‘Montero’ Hits No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100 Chart
With all of the debates and controversy surrounding the “Montero” music video itself, many were sure that the streams for the song would be exceptionally high. This is now the case as this record is now No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, according to Chart Data. This marks Nas X’s second No. 1 song as the first was in 2019 with his massive single, “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. Montero is also Nas X’s fifth total song to appear on the Hot 100.
Nas X Celebrates And Fires Back At Doubters
“Y’all told a 19 year old who had just escaped the lowest point of his life that he would never have a hit again. you told him to stop while he’s ahead. he could’ve gave up. but 4 multi platinum songs and 2 #1’s later, he’s still here. thank you to my team and my fans! ily.”
Nas X Manifested His Success Last Summer And Continues To Call Out Haters
Nas X also posted a video to his social media feeds of him last summer, where he is uplifting himself. He congratulated himself and explained how he deserves everything coming his way. In his latest tweets today, Nas X also said “I hope my haters are sad. I hope they are crying. I want your tears to fill my Grammy cup.” He also stuck to his free promise of giving fans free Hanes socks if he went No. 1 with “Montero.”
Nas X’s Debut Album Expected To Arrive This Year
With the massive success of “Montero” going gold in the United States and becoming the No.1 song in the country, many are also looking forward to Nas X‘s debut studio album. As of now, he still hasn’t provided an exact release date or title. At the end of 2020 though, he said that this project would be out sometime in 2021. With the momentum that he has right now, this album could very well top the Billboard 200 chart, too.
