Jen Shah is said to be “embarrassed” by the scandal she and her assistant, Stuart Smith, are currently facing after allegedly scamming elderly victims amid a years-long telemarketing scheme.
“Jen is really humiliated that all of this is happening in the public eye and that it will be shown on Bravo,” the source told Us Weekly on March 31.
Shah and Smith were arrested on Tuesday and are due to appear in court, virtually, on Friday to address an indictment that came out of New York earlier this week.
Jen Shah Is Not In Touch With The ‘RHOSLC’ Cast
According to the report, Shah hasn’t “been talking to her castmates or friends” since her arrest, even though she was seen walking out of a courthouse in Utah hours after the incident was reported.
In a press released shared regarding Shah’s arrest, Manhattan U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss detailed the charges of wire fraud and money laundering pending against the reality star.
“Jennifer Shah, who portrays herself as a wealthy and successful businessperson on ‘reality’ television, and Stuart Smith, who is portrayed as Shah’s ‘first assistant,’ allegedly generated and sold ‘lead lists’ of innocent individuals for other members of their scheme to repeatedly scam,” she said.
Jen Shah Reportedly Targeted Elderly Victims
“In actual reality and as alleged, the so-called business opportunities pushed on the victims by Shah, Smith, and their co-conspirators were just fraudulent schemes, motivated by greed, to steal victims’ money. Now, these defendants face time in prison for their alleged crimes,” Strauss continued.
Shah and Smith were also accused, by HSI Special Agent-in-Charge Peter C. Fitzhugh, of building “their opulent lifestyle at the expense of vulnerable, often elderly, working-class people.”
“Shah and Smith objectified their very real human victims as ‘leads’ to be bought and sold, offering their personal information for sale to other members of their fraud ring,” he said.
‘RHOSLC’ Season Two Continued To Film After Jen Shah’s Arrest
Following Shah’s arrest on Tuesday, Us Weekly confirmed cameras were rolling.
“Jen was filming with a few of the other women present when she was arrested. The women were completely shocked when Jen was taken away,” the source said.
A second source told the magazine on Wednesday that the other women of the show “resumed filming [on season two] after Jen’s arrest” without her.
As for when Shah could potentially rejoin her castmates in production, she may never get the chance to do so.
Jen Shah’s Future On ‘RHOSLC’ Is ‘Unclear’
“Jen’s future this season remains unclear. If she will go back to filming or not, no one is really sure, she hasn’t resumed filming yet,” the source explained.
Also in March, Shah was accused of being verbally abusive to her employees after a shocking leaded video recording was shared on social media.
Filming on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” season two began earlier this year in Utah and currently. the ladies are believed to be enjoying a cast trip to Aspen, Colorado.
