The last week has been a very wild one for Lil Nas X in regards to him trending on social media. Last week, he released his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” single along with the music video for it. The title of the song itself is named after Nas X’s first name. The music video is what caught everyone by surprise though as the superstar was seen twerking on Satan. From that point, many questioned why those visuals were included.
Nas X Also Released Nike Air Max 97 ‘Satan Shoes’
Nas X fed into the controversy as earlier this week, he released 666 pairs of Nike Air Max 97 “Satan Shoes.” This was in collaboration with MSCHF. These shoes featured an all-black with red colorway with a Luke 10:18 verse on the side and also human blood on the soles. A satanic symbol was also placed on top of each shoe. This resulted in many people deciding to cancel Nas X as well as Nike. Nike went on to say that they were in no way involved in creating this shoe and soon filed a trademark infringement lawsuit.
‘Montero’ May Hit The No. 1 Spot On Billboard Hot 100 Chart
All of this controversy appears to be working in Nas X’s favor in regards to his music sales. According to Chart Data, the “Montero” single is challenging for the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week. Many listeners believed that this would be the case a week ago as the music video for the single generated so much buzz and criticism for the song as a whole. Now, huge first week numbers seem inevitable.
