Britney Spears fight for freedom continues to rage on. The pop star is in locked in an intense legal battle as she tries to remove her conservatorship. Since 2008, her father Jamie Spears has been in charge of her conservatorship, giving him control over all her assets.
However, in recent years Jamie’s role as Britney’s conservator has come under fire. Reports surfaced that he doesn’t have Britney’s best interests at heart, and has been stealing money from his daughter. The stories about Jamie’s treatment of Britney has led to fans starting the #FreeBritney movement to help the singer end the conservatorship.
In early 2007, the public saw a drastic change in Britney. The once bubbly pop star now seemed solemn and depressed. She made tabloid news when she was spotted out partying with Paris Hilton.
In February, Spears entered a drug rehab in the Caribbean. However, days later she checked out and returned to Los Angeles. Britney’s next move would stun the world when she was photographed at a hair salon shaving her head.
Britney’s troubles would continue when she was caught on camera confronting the paparazzi and destroying a photographer’s car with an umbrella. The singer’s behavior was cause for concern. Her ex-husband Kevin Federline was granted sole custody of their sons Sean Preston and Jayden James.
Heading into 2008, Britney’s problems continued to arise. In January, police were called to her house after she refused to hand over her kids to Federline. Following the incident, Spears was placed in a psychiatric ward. A court later placed Spears in a conservatorship under the control of her father Jamie.
Support For Britney
It’s been over a decade since Britney’s infamous breakdown. The 39-year-old is doing better and has changed her life. Now, she’s in her biggest fight as she tries to end the conservatorship and take back control of her life.
Britney has received a lot of support in her fight for freedom. Her boyfriend Sam Asghari has been very outspoken about his dislike for Spears’ father, and wanting Britney to be free of Jamie’s control.
Aside from Sam, Britney’s loyal fans are continuing their #FreeBritney movement. The campaign has picked up a lot of steam following the February 2021 “Framing Britney Spears” documentary. Celebrities including Miley Cyrus and Cher are lending their support for the campaign.
Sharon Stone Said Britney Asked For Help
Another celeb who can be added to the #FreeBritney movement is Sharon Stone. During an appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” Stone revealed that in 2007, Spears reached out to her for help.
According to Stone, Spears wrote “a very long and important, poignant letter” asking for help. Although Stone sympathized with Britney and would’ve loved to help, the actress couldn’t. Stone herself was going through a difficult time during that period, and felt if she couldn’t help herself, she couldn’t help Britney.
Although Stone couldn’t help Britney during that time, the “Casino” actress is in support for her now. Stone calls the recent situation with Britney “so out of control and so awful.”
Britney’s Fight Continues
Since 2019, Britney has been locked in the ongoing battle to end her father’s conservatorship. The “Baby One More Time” singer isn’t given up without a fight. This time with more support behind her, it looks like things may slowly be turning in Britney’s favor.
In February 2021, a judge denied Jamie Spears request to remove the financial firm Bessemer Trust as co-conservator over Britney’s finances. Earlier this month, Britney’s lawyer Samuel Ingham filed a petition to replace Jodi Montgomery replace Jamie as Britney’s conservator. The hearing for whether Montgomery or Jamie will remain as conservator will take place on April 27th.
