Johnny Depp and his team presented all the evidence they believed was required to prove Amber Heard was an unreliable witness in the libel case against The Sun that left the "Pirates of the Caribbean" star labeled as a "wife beater" by a U.K. court. Although their argument was not enough to sway the judge and change his decision, Depp and his lawyers are focused on the next legal battle with the star's ex-wife, which will be fought on U.S. soil.

'Seriously Question the Decision'

The Blast obtained a statement from Johnny Depp's attorney, Joelle Rich, who is a partner at the London-based firm, Schillings.

"The evidence presented at last week's hearing (the appeal of Mr. Depp vs. News Group Newspapers LTD) further demonstrates that there are clear and objective reasons to seriously question the decision reached in the UK court," Rich says.

She adds, "Mr. Depp looks forward to presenting the complete, irrefutable evidence of the truth in the US libel case against Ms. Heard where she will have to provide full disclosure."

As we reported, Amber Heard and her team also released a statement after Depp's appeal was denied, and the "Aquaman" star is "pleased" and "not surprised" by the court's decision.

In regards to Heard, sources close to Depp continue to point at evidence of Heard being an unreliable witness in the case after questions arose whether she had donated the full amount to Children's Hospital Los Angeles after the actress claimed in UK High Court last year she had sent the money.

The Children's Hospital Donation

The basis of Depp's appeal was that his ex-wife had used the donation story as a "calculated and manipulative lie," and wanted the ruling overturned. The court did not agree and upheld the judge's decision.

"It's important to note again that Heard did not personally donate any money to the Children’s Hospital," the source close to Depp says.

The source adds, "The hospital was paid $100k by [Depp] directly, but no further payments were made by Heard. Additionally, as Ms. Heard was not obligated to put forth all necessary documents, significant facts which strongly dispute the many false and unsubstantiated claims against Mr. Depp were dismissed or ignored."
