According to court documents obtained by The Blast, a court-appointed doctor in Thomas’s conservatorship says the once-respected lawyer has dementia which impairs his ability to comprehend the legal proceedings against him.
The doctor says dementia and late-onset Alzheimer’s are affecting Erika’s estranged husband’s memory. He says it also affects his recall, recognition, concentration, communication, logic, and understanding.
Back in February, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge placed Thomas under a temporary conservatorship. His brother Robert Girardi was put in place to take control of Thomas’s estate for a couple of months. The conservatorship came months after Thomas’s life started crumbling. The famed attorney started being hit with a ton of lawsuits and was forced into a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. His creditors, including his former law firm partner, asked the court to appoint a trustee to take over Thomas’s finances.
The trustee now has full control over Thomas’s bank accounts. He is already starting the process of seizing assets that he finds valuable. The property will be sold off to the highest bidder and the proceeds used to pay off Thomas’s massive debt.
Recently, the judge decided Thomas will have to move out of his $16-million mansion he once shared with Erika. The trustee will be able to put the home on the market. Once they find a buyer Thomas will have 14 days to vacate the property.
Last year, Erika filed for divorce from Thomas after 21 years of marriage. She asked the court to award her spousal support. He asked the court to shut down that request. The divorce is still pending.
After she filed for divorce, Erika moved out of the Pasadena mansion she lived in with Thomas. She is currently shacked up in a $1.5 million rental near Hollywood. Erika has remained quiet about the situation nor has she spoke about Thomas’s alleged health issues.
Amid it all, Erika and Thomas are also being sued in a massive federal lawsuit accusing them of embezzling his client’s money.
