UFC star Cody Garbrandt claims that he and his son, Kai Fisher Garbrandt, were kicked off a Southwest flight because the 2-year-old wouldn’t wear a facemask.
The former UFC bantamweight champion shared a video to social media of himself trying to confront the flight attendant that allegedly kicked them off the plane on Thursday, March 4. The video allegedly shows the attendant trying to hide from Cody’s camera when the fighter was trying to confront him. Garbrandt was then asked to stop recording and to exit the plane by another attendant. Scroll down to see his video.
The MMA star shared his video and expressed his anger at the airline. “F–k @southwestair got kicked off because my 2 year old son wouldn’t put his mask over his face,” Cody captioned his video. “This coward flight attendant hid his bi–h a– in the bathroom.”
After the incident, Garbrandt shared a picture of Kai sleeping in his car seat while seemingly leaving the airport. “Poor kid just wanted to go see his family,” he wrote across the picture.
Mask restrictions have been a hot-button issue recently, with some states like Texas and Mississipi doing away with requirements. Cody’s fans filled the comments section of his post with mixed emotions. “I mean…. it’s not his fault he is just doing his job enforcing the rules,” one follower commented. Other followers applauded him for taking a stand. “What f—ing world are we living in where this is OK. Good for you for standing up,” Roger Mathews, Frankie Edgar‘s podcast co-host, said.
Garbrandt continued to shame the airline on social media. “Kicking a two year old off a plane ride but your captains aren’t wearing their masks, while we all are full capacity sharing the same air! What a joke @southwestair,” he wrote alongside a video showing the maskless captains.
He also posted a video to his Instagram story where he had Kai repeat, “I’m not a sheep!” while walking through a parking lot.
Cody seemed really excited to travel with his son and woke Kai up early to make it to the airport on time. “Kai isn’t a morning person lol,” he noted.
Kai was born on March 12, 2018, and his parents shared photos with the media. We caught up with Garbrandt in 2017 while his wife, Danny was expecting, and he said that he would let his son enter into the world of MMA if he wanted to. “I would let him do whatever he wants,” Cody said. “If he wants to be a fighter, I’ll do this journey again!”
