Olympic gymnast McKayla Maroney, rushed to the hospital in the early hours of this morning and winding up with a kidney stone diagnosis, was in her bikini just hours before things turned nasty. The 25-year-old vault queen is currently front-page news for having shared a painful-looking Wednesday night, one seeing the London 2012 Olympics face hitting up the E.R. in “severe pain.” It was a much more light-hearted affair beforehand, though. Check out the shocking hospitalization and bikini action below.

Sharing something in common with actress and Honest Beauty founder Alba, Maroney updated her Glohé wellness Instagram before her hospital visit, outlining the benefits of sunscreen and showing herself catching rays with a little bikini action thrown in for good measure. The California native even revealed that her own mother had raised her to treat her skin with toothpaste.
All smiles in a peep-hole and black sundress with floaty fabrics, the gymnast sent out her vacay vibes while flashing a blue bikini, also making sure she followed her caption and stayed safe in a hat and shades.
“In the last year or so, I’ve definitely doubled up on my obsession with protecting my skin from the beautiful yet harmful rays of the sun with tinted sunscreens, cute hats, and sunglasses especially while driving!” the caption read.

It was a very different story just hours later, though, with Maroney posting night-time photos of the outside of the E.R. in Orange County, California. The gymnast revealed:
“Tuesday I was throwing up all day, with severe pain in my back and stomach.”
“Had to come to the ER at 3am because pain kept getting worse, and I couldnt’ stop throwing up. Just got by CT Scan back. I have a few kidney stones,” she added, with a photo showing her in a hospital bed and wearing a gown while with her eyes closed.
Maroney appears to have been taken care of. The gymnast has not posted since her trip to the E.R., though, with her 1.3 million Instagram followers likely wishing her all the best. McKayla had mentioned her mother just before the difficult night, writing:
“I was the oldest in my family, and my mom wasn’t big into skincare, or beauty knowledge.
She just washed her face with water everyday, and never had an issue.
So when I was struggling with acne, it was beyond her.
Her first recommendation was to put toothpaste on my face.”
