Cardi B has been red hot lately with the release of her “Up” single, which is her first single of the year and her first solo single since 2019’s “Press.” The wait is also on for Cardi’s sophomore album, as the three-year mark is almost here for her debut studio album, “Invasion Of Privacy,” Cardi recently sat down for an interview with Mariah Carey for Interview Magazine as the forthcoming album was a topic along with the high expectations for female rappers in general.
Cardi B Says People Give High Expectations For Female Rappers To Mariah Carey
While sitting down with Carey, Cardi detailed how female rappers have much different expectations by the public compared to their male counterparts. This comes as people wonder how her upcoming album will sound compared to her highly successful debut project that everyone loved.
“People always have crazy expectations, especially when it comes to female rap,” Cardi explained to Carey. “It’s not like it’s a competition, but people are always comparing and comparing and comparing. It’s almost like they want to see you fail.”
Cardi Says She Will ‘Feel Really Sad’ If Sophomore Album Doesn’t Do Well
Cardi also admitted that she feels some pressure herself for this album to do well. She noted that she will “feel really said” if this project doesn’t do well the way she expects it to. Many feel that this is far from the case though and that Cardi is destined to win big again.

“I hate the feeling when I don’t do something really good,” Cardi added. “So I want my sh*t to be good because my last album did so well, and if this one doesn’t do well, I’m going to feel really sad.”
Cardi’s ‘Up’ Single Has Been Gaining A Lot Of Momentum In Preparation For Upcoming Album
Earlier this month, Cardi put out her “Up” single and immediately won big. It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This ended up becoming the highest debuting solo track by a female rapper this century. Cardi then took to Twitter to express how thankful she was for everyone’s support on this record. She wasnt’ solely focusing on Up becoming a No. 1 record but was very satisfied at where it landed. Olivia Rodrigo‘s “Drivers License” was at that top spot and still is currently.

Cardi Recently Told Jimmy Fallon That She Is A Few Songs Away From The Album Being Completed
Earlier this month, Cardi appeared in an interview with the “Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” That’s where she provided an album update with him as well. She revealed that she is a few songs and some more music videos away from the project finally being completed.
“I really want my next project or anything that’s related to music to just be my album,” Cardi explained. “I just gotta focus on a couple of more songs and do all the music videos.”
