Back in August, Cardi B had the music industry ecstatic with her “WAP” single featuring Megan Thee Stallion. This record ended up debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. BTS‘s “Dynamite” single ended up taking the top spot for a few weeks but then, WAP quickly made its return. This single also brought controversy, even to elected Republicans, for its highly sexual content. Cardi didn’t care though as she held her ground and continued to win big with WAP with the support of her fans.
Waters Shows Love For Megan’s Work In ‘WAP’ In New Interview
In a new interview with Rep. Maxine Waters, Megan received plenty of love from the Congresswomen for the work she put in on “WAP” and for her “audacity” on it. Waters cites how she likes when women take charge and that’s what was done on this single and compared the reaction to the hate that gangster rap got back in the day.
“Here’s what I said: Now that’s audacity,” said Waters. “That is the ability for women to take charge of what they want to say because, as I said, I had paid attention to the young Gangster Rap time when men were in charge. They said whatever they wanted to say. That said whatever they wanted to say about women, what have you. But women didn’t say [anything] for a long time; what they could say or wanted to say or dared to say.”
Waters Says Young Women Are ‘Taking Control Of Their Art’
“And so, I thought, ‘That’s audacity.’ So, I’m with you, I’m fine, I have no problem. You young women are taking control of your art. You’re defining it in ways that never would be defined by anybody else and you’re willing to have the courage and the nerves and the audacity to say whatever the hell you think.”
‘WAP’ Is 3x Platinum In The US
“WAP” continues to be one of the hottest records in America as Cardi and Megan fans still enjoy it as much as they did when it first came out last summer. Currently, it stands at 3x platinum status in the US as well. This is after selling 3 million units, On YouTube, WAP is also at over 349 million views. The success of WAP also has fans hoping that Cardi and Megan collaborate on future records, which seems very likely.
Cardi Held Off On Submitting ‘WAP’ For Award Nominations
Back in November, Cardi also got on Instagram Live to explain why she didn’t submit “WAP” for any Grammy nominations. This came after all of the nominations were revealed. Cardi revealed how she wants to put out her forthcoming sophomore album first before racking in awards for WAP.
“Like I said, I never pressed for a Grammy, but y’all not gonna take away something that I know I worked my ass off [for], that I deserve,” she told her followers. “If I was pressed for a Grammy I would’ve submitted ‘WAP’ for this year and I didn’t submit it. I don’t want to be submitted to award shows until I put out my album because I think my album is so good. It means something.”
