On the weekend segment of “Saturday Night Live,” the show opened by calling out New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, a Republican, to apologize for their separate scandals.
The politicians were both welcomed on a show called “Oops, You Did It Again,” hosted by Britney Spears, depicted by “SNL” cast member Chloe Fineman.
The show’s basis was to allow guests to give “unconvincing” apologies — such as the decades’-late confession and apology the real-life Spears has received from ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake after the documentary “Framing Britney Spears” came out.
Stop The Count!
On the show, Cuomo was played by Staten Island-born cast member Pete Davidson showcasing a typical New York tough-guy style. The character was a bit reluctant to take responsibility for the allegations.
His administration retained data about nursing homes coronavirus deaths and intimidated people who spoke out about it.
As Cuomo’s parody, Davidson reluctantly admitted that some nursing home deaths had been falsely labeled hospital deaths. He maintained that the state was just “moving] the bodies” in the same gesture he thinks Disney World might, if a guest passed on during the teacup ride. Still, they had to pretend it happened in the parking lot.
Cuomo Displayed Anger Issues
In a faux calm, he then offered an apology after much prodding by Spears. He suddenly flew into a rage again as he promised to bury Bill de Blasio, “New York City” Mayor, in the tallest grave ever for demanding that Cuomo be investigated.
Calm again, he apologized to Spears saying, “I’m sorry, I get a little angry now and then — and always.”
Female cast member Aidy Bryant played Cruz. The senator faced public ire last week for deciding to take a family trip to Cancun while Texas was in a winter storm crisis that left millions of its citizens without power or drinking water.
The Tropics In Winter
In an ironic twist, Bryant said to Spears, “I am in a little bit of hot water, which I am told is a thing no one in Texas has.”
The counterfeit Cruz (Bryant) had beads in his hair and wore a “Cancun Family Vacation 2021” T-shirt, he also carried a tropical drink in one hand and rolled a suitcase with the other, just as the real-life senator was caught doing in viral airport pictures last week.
In a mock apology, he said, “I deeply regret my actions over the last couple of days; I’m sorry, I am pretty bad at human stuff.”
Honor Among Thieves
Fineman’s Spears then asked Bryant’s Cruz if he had any idea why critics were calling him a coward. To which he answered that “a coward” was the most excellent word he heard.
After making a reluctant admission, fake Cruz admitted to pushing the blame of the vacation on his daughters, to which fake Spears aggressively advised the senator, speaking from personal experience, to leave his daughters out of it as “it can mess with their head.”
As fake Cruz tried to commiserate with fake Cuomo, as they were both “misunderstood men,” fake Cuomo immediately shot him down, saying, “I am a man, you are a clown, and If you mess with me, I will send you to a clown hospital — and when you die, I will not count your body.”
