Is Cameron Diaz Finally Breaking Her Acting Hiatus?
It’s hard to believe that the last Cameron Diaz film to hit the big screen was the 2014 film adaption of “Annie.”
In 2015, the “Bad Teacher” star married “Good Charlotte” singer Benji Madden, 41, in a private ceremony, and the two had their first child together, a daughter named Raddix, in January 2020.
Although Madden has previously referred to his partner of six years as the “best mom and wife and friend,” is Diaz ready to finally head back to the big screen?
Starring Roles
Diaz is known for several high-profile roles, starting with Jim Carrey’s “The Mask” in 1994.
She starred opposite of Tom Cruise in 2001’s “Vanilla Sky” and 2010’s “Knight and Day”, as well as appeared in a plethora of romantic comedies, from “There’s Something About Mary” with Ben Stiller in 1998, “What Happens in Vegas” with Ashton Kutcher in 2008, and “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” with Anna Kendrick and Jennifer Lopez in 2012.
She dabbled in sci-fi thrillers with the 2009 cult classic, “The Box,” and even stepped into voice acting, lending her voice to the “Shrek” franchise where she voiced Shrek’s wife Princess Fiona throughout all four Shrek films and their spin-offs, including “Far Far Away Idol” and “Scared Shrekless.”
Why Did She Quit?
Although her acting chops quickly made her a household name, the “Charlie’s Angels” alum revealed that she “didn’t really make any space in her personal life” and that walking away gave her “a peace in my soul.”
“I just decided that I wanted different things out of my life,” Diaz admitted. “I had gone so hard for so long, working, making films and it’s such a grind.”
“There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there,” Diaz continued, sharing that it was “intense” living in the public eye.
What Is She Doing Now?
Even though she’s no longer jetting around the world from one role to the next, it seems that the 48-year-old mother-of-one keeps a lot on her plate.
“Whether waking up extra early to take care of everyone (3 humans and a dozen animals) or doing all the research and reading to make sure we try our best to be good parents for our daughter, she’s a force of nature and I’m very grateful,” Madden shared.
In addition to her family life, Diaz is also focused on Avaline, the organic wine brand she founded with fashion mogul Katherine Powerin 2020.
“Avaline is the only day-to-day work that I’m doing other than being a wife and a mother,” Diaz revealed. “It really has been the most fulfilling part of my life so far.”
Looking Ahead
Although plenty of fans are eager for “The Holiday” star to make a comeback, it doesn’t seem at the forefront of Diaz’s plans right now.
“I’m never going to say never about anything in life. I’m just not that person. So will I ever make a movie again? I’m not looking to. But will I? I don’t know. I have no idea,” she shared in a recent interview.
She continued, “I couldn’t imagine, being a mom now, where I’m at as a mother with my child at her first year, to have to be on a movie set that takes 14 hours, 16 hours of my day away from my child. I just couldn’t. I wouldn’t have been the mom that I am now had I chosen to do that at any other time in my life.”
Although Diaz seems to be enjoying motherhood and taking time to focus on her family, perhaps she’ll be willing to break her hiatus for the long-awaited “Shrek 5.”
