Following a breakout year, actor Brian Jordan Alvarez now finds himself facing serious allegations of sexual assault and inappropriate behavior from a former close friend.
In a damning expose released earlier this week, the 37-year-old comedian and star of FX’s “English Teacher” is accused of leveraging his ascent on the Hollywood scene to gaslight and manipulate others who believed Alvarez would lead them to fame.
Brian Jordan Alvarez Had A Breakout Year, Thanks To 'English Teacher'
Known for producing and starring in web series based on heightened events from his everyday life, Brian Jordan Alvarez has long been on the radar.
In 2016, Alvarez released “The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo” on YouTube, a five-episode sitcom-adjacent project that was lauded by multiple LGBTQ+ publications for, among other aspects, its frank nature on sexuality and gender-fluidity.
He has also recurred in guest spots on “Jane the Virgin” and the 2018 revival of “Will & Grace,” the latter of which saw him portray Estefan Gloria, a flight attendant and eventual husband of Jack McFarland (played by Sean Hayes).
Following appearances in “M3GAN” and “80 for Brady,” it was announced that another self-crafted pilot by Alvarez, “English Teacher,” had been ordered by FX as a full series.
Its first season began airing in September 2024 and achieved critical acclaim from fans and television insiders.
A Former Friend And Scene Partner Of Alvarez Claims He Was Manipulated By The Actor
A published report on Tuesday focused on Brian Jordan Alvarez’s rise to fame and included shocking accusations from a featured player of the “Caleb Gallo” web series.
Actor Jon Ebeling, who played Billy, claimed Alvarez manipulated him into a sexual relationship to prove that their real-life bond wasn’t just a catalyst for Ebeling to get close to Stephanie Koenig, another friend of Alvarez’s who, likewise, starred in “Caleb Gallo."
Two days after having sex with Koenig for the first time, Ebeling says he was asked to “hang out” with Alvarez at the latter actor’s apartment.
After watching a movie and smoking marijuana, Alvarez allegedly began barraging Ebeling with questions about his loyalty.
“Are you manipulating me to get to Steph? Are you manipulating me to be on the show?’,” Ebeling recalled, per Vulture. “And so, it became this game of like, ‘No, no, not at all.’”
Afterward, Alvarez suggested they should “hook up” to solidify their bond, which he noted Koenig would approve of.
Ebeling, who identifies as straight, claimed he denied Alvarez several times before finally relenting and allowing the actor, who is gay, to perform oral sex on him.
“I thought this is what I needed to do to keep the peace, to keep seeing Steph, to stay on the show,” says Ebeling.
A Real-Life Moment Leads To Ebeling Allegedly Being ‘Raped’ By Alvarez
The next day, Alvarez did an about-face and told Ebeling they should keep things secret.
Ebeling thought otherwise and the two men eventually told her the truth – which was said to be “devastating” to her. The couple parted ways soon after.
After multiple therapy sessions and assurances that he had no romantic or sexual interest in Alvarez, Ebeling and Koenig reconciled.
Coincidentally, Koenig was said to have never distanced herself from Alvarez following the ordeal. On the contrary, she appeared to coddle his “needy” nature.
“We’ve got to make sure that [Alvarez is] happy and he feels good and loved,” Ebeling claims Koenig said to him.
While filming episode three of “Caleb Gallo,” which featured Caleb and Billy watching the same movie Alvarez and Ebeling had the night of their sexual interaction, the script then called for Caleb to perform oral sex on Billy.
Alvarez was said to have moved beneath a blanket covering himself and Ebeling, then pulled the actor’s pants down and performed the sex act for real.
“Nobody on set knows what’s going on under the comforter, and I’m just frozen,” he recalled. “I didn’t know what to do. I’m on set with my director, who is assaulting me. It was a horrible feeling.”
Immediately after filming, Ebeling texted Koenig and told her what occurred.
“We were shooting and Brian took a huge goddamn liberty,” he wrote. “I’m so f-cking upset. I feel like I was raped – literally, I was raped.”
Instead of offering comfort, Ebeling says Koenig blamed him for Alvarez’s supposed assault.
“How were you not able to stop this?” she texted back. “Why didn’t you push his head down? You’re a man.”
Ebeling did complete filming on “Caleb Gallo,” but said his relationships with Alvarez and Koenig were irreparably broken after.
Alvarez Says His Sexual Interactions With Ebeling Were ‘Consensual’

Speaking through his lawyer, Alvarez would contend that Ebeling “enthusiastically gave consent” for all of their sexual interactions – including the recreation that was filmed for his web series.
“This was the performative Kabuki theater of a self-described manipulator, who was distorting the situation to ingratiate himself to [Koenig],” the statement reads.
Though he doesn’t deny the latter incident, Alvarez argued that because of their previous sexual encounters, he assumed that Ebeling would be fine with him doing so on set.
“Brian briefly made contact with Mr. Ebeling’s [genitals] under the covers,” the lawyer expressed, “believing (correctly and justifiably in light of Brian’s then-current sexual relationship with Mr. Ebeling) that Mr. Ebeling was fine with it.”
Ebeling affirms that he never consented to Alvarez engaging with him, vocally or otherwise.
“Produce the evidence,” Ebeling says. “No way in hell would I have ever consented to that.”
FX Is Keeping Tabs On The Allegations Surrounding Alvarez
Season 1 of “English Teacher” completed its 8-episode run in mid-October. It has yet to be renewed for a second.
In a separate statement, FX acknowledged being informed of the allegation against Brian Jordan Alvarez before the sitcom’s debut.
“We reviewed the allegations presented to us by another media outlet prior to the show’s launch,” an FX spokesperson told the Daily Beast, adding, “Mr. Ebeling never reached out to us with any concerns. We will have no further comment at this time.”
Ebeling appears to have no further contact with Alvarez or Koenig. Koenig, however, remains close to Alvarez and is a co-star on “English Teacher.”
All episodes of “English Teacher” can currently be streamed on Hulu.
