On Friday, Madonna shared two AI-generated photos on her Instagram featuring herself and the Pope in seemingly suggestive poses.
In the AI images, the singer wore revealing net-like clothing that exposed much of her chest and covered her neck with various necklaces. She also wore her hair loose, and her face appeared heavily made up.
In one picture, the Roman Pontiff has his arm around Madonna's waist and his face close to hers, as if he is leaning in for a kiss.
The second image depicted the 66-year-old in another suggestive pose, with the Pope placing his face near hers while they shared a side hug.
Both posts had captions, "Feels Good to Be Seen…" and "Going into the weekend like…," written in bold white font.
How Fans Reacted To Madonna's Post
The post sparked mixed reactions online, with some finding it provocative to the catholic church.
One user wrote, "This is ridiculously disrespectful," while another commented, "This is insanely disrespectful and weird, and I am not even Christian."
A third noted, "This image is an insult to Pope Francis, Christians, and cosmetic surgery."
A fourth remarked, "This is so disrespectful, and she claims herself to be a Catholic?"
One more user commented, "This is just weird as hell… she's lost it."
Other users dismissed the post as playful humor from the Queen of Pop, with one person writing, "She's so funny for this."
A couple of them made suggestive comments, such as "Madonna wanting to get freaky with the Pope?" and "I never thought I'd hear about Madonna wanting the Pope like that!"
Some also criticized Madonna for seemingly using the post to stay relevant in discussions: "She's trying so hard to keep being controversial. Girl, you're 66. Give it a rest."
Madonna Has Been Criticized By The Catholic Church On Multiple Occasions
Over the years, Madonna has faced criticism from the Catholic Church for actions perceived as disrespectful to the religious institution.
One such incident involved her "Like a Prayer" music video, which featured burning crosses.
The 1989 video sparked significant controversy, with then-Pope John Paul II even urging fans to boycott Madonna's Blond Ambition tour shows in Italy the following year.
Nearly two decades later, during a concert in Rome, Madonna staged a mock crucifixion, which prompted Cardinal Ersilio Tonini to call for her ex-communication.
"This time, the limits have really been pushed too far. This concert is a blasphemous challenge to the faith and a profanation of the cross. She should be excommunicated," the cardinal said at the time.
She further intensified her contentious relationship with the Church in May 2022 by addressing a tweet to Pope Francis asking for a meet-up to discuss her past "blasphemous" behavior.
Madonna Shared Rare Photo Of Her Father And Kids

Earlier in the month, Madonna posted a picture on Instagram of her father, Silvio Ciccone, and her six children while reflecting on the losses she has endured this year.
"We are born into families, and we create our own. As time goes by, I am more and more appreciative of these microcosms of life that dance around me and teach me lessons every day," the singer captioned the post, per the Mirror.
She went on to praise her father for how he has endured the losses with dignity, referencing the death of her stepmum, Joan, in September and brother, Christopher, in October.
The singer added, "My family has experienced many losses this year. My father has endured with dignity. Watching him cry in the cemetery when we buried my brother Christopher - right after he lost his wife. Was a moment I will never forget. Spending time with him and all my children on Thanksgiving was Medicine for the Soul."
The Singer Allegedly Broke Up With Her Boyfriend, Akeem Morris
According to the Daily Mail, a source revealed that Madonna and Morris broke up, noting that the 38-year age gap between the couple played a part in the breakdown of their short relationship.
The "Like A Virgin" singer debuted her romance with Morris on Instagram, sharing photos of them in bed and other shots of her on the Fourth of July.
Months after posting their photo on Instagram, the duo were seen together in Italy, where Madonna celebrated her 66th birthday.
Regarding their separation, the source said, "Madonna ran into the same issue with this boy toy as she has with all of her recent men."
"The age difference became an issue," they noted. "They come from different time periods. Madonna felt Akeem had a wandering eye because he did."
