"It's been a while since I've done anything. I just have to get off my backside. I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the south of France," he said. "It's been four months now since I haven't been able to see. And my left eye is not the greatest. So there's hope and encouragement that it will be okay, but I'm kind of stuck at the moment."

In his appearance on "Good Morning America," John admitted that he wasn't sure he could record any new music as he turned all attention to recovering.

"Because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don't know, because I can't see a lyric for a start," John continued before adding that they were "taking [the] initiative to try and get it better" at the time as that was what they were "concentrating on."

"It's never fortunate for anything like this to happen. And it kind of floored me, and I can't see anything, I can't read anything, I can't watch anything," the singer quipped before voicing his gratitude for life, saying, "I'm so lucky, I'm the luckiest man in the world."

John is seemingly apprehensive of longevity after he opened up about death in his new documentary "Elton John: Never Too Late," where he admitted, "I don't know how much time I have left."

According to The Mirror, in a scene from the film, the iconic singer sat in a dressing room on his final tour as he looked at his possessions before confessing that he often thinks of life and death.

He then admits, "I wonder what is going to happen to all of this stuff when I finish? This is the latter time of my life. I don't know how much time I have left."

"You think about that more when you get to my age. You think about life and death. You think, 'Well, I just want to be where I want to be now,'" he said.

The "I'm Still Standing" singer added, "I don't have to work after this. I will work and do records and putting radio shows together but traveling takes so much out of you. It is very tiring. I am used to it. I am a veteran at it, but this is where you start to think about mortality."

During a scene in his "Never Too Late" documentary, John left his husband Furnish quite emotional after saying he would "not be around" to see their young sons get married.

In the scene, reported by Radio Times, the "Sacrifice" singer is seen apart from his family while touring the U.S. before disclosing that he was leaving the road behind to "dedicate more time to raising my children."

He also reflected on his health, saying, "I want to see our children get married, but I don't think I'm going to be around for that."

Furnish, who wed the singer in 2014, immediately got emotional: "That really upset me, because in my mind I sort of think Elton is going to live forever – we all think that – and Elton is so vibrant that it's an easy thing to believe, but it forces you to confront that reality."
