Cher's romance with rapper Alexander "AE" Edwards has reportedly raised concerns among her family, who believe he has some "red flags."
Tensions grew when the singer announced their collaboration on a new album, giving Edwards creative control and financial benefits.
Cher has also publicly defended Alexander "AE" Edwards after his brawl with rapper Travis Scott.
Cher's Family Is Concerned About Her Relationship With Alexander 'AE' Edwards
Cher has been dating Edwards for two years. However, insiders claim that those close to the singer, including her son Chaz Bono, are alarmed by the situation and struggling to come to terms with their relationship as their efforts to express concern seem ignored.
According to these sources, Cher's loved ones believe Edwards has shown "one red flag after another," and they worry about his true intentions.
Tensions have apparently grown since the 78-year-old music legend announced in May that she is collaborating with the 38-year-old music executive on a new album. This project has reportedly given him significant creative control and financial benefits.
"Cher's family has given up on trying to convince her that Alexander does not have her best interests in mind," an insider shared with the Daily Mail. "She claimed that he was not after her money but now he is literally getting paid an enormous amount of money for this new album and she is giving him creative control of it."
The Singer's Family Fears She Might Revise Her Will To Include The Rapper
Concerns surrounding Cher's relationship with Edwards escalated after rumors emerged that the singer is contemplating revising her will to include him.
The insider noted that the legendary singer "has not yet done this but is strongly considering it because she claims he is the love of her life."
"And, if her album is the last album she does, it will undoubtedly be a massive success. When she passes, this gives AE all of the profits for it and he is set for life. Huge red flag," they added, per the Daily Mail.
Additionally, Cher seemed to defend Edwards following his physical altercation with rapper Travis Scott after the 2024 amfAR Cannes Gala.
Taking to Instagram, she wrote, "I'm proud of Alexander. He didn't start the fight against two men… He finished it, Gotta love him."
This public support reportedly raised alarm among her loved ones.
"Her family was extremely concerned after she defended him getting into this brawl with Travis Scott because she condoned his violence," a source claimed.
Cher Opens Up About Relationship With Alexander 'AE' Edwards And Sparks Engagement Rumors
Cher confirmed her relationship with Edwards in November 2022, sharing a photo of the pair holding hands at two Los Angeles venues.
She announced the news on X (Twitter at the time), captioning the image with "Alexander" and a heart emoji.
When a fan asked if he was her new love, she responded with two heart emojis, adding, "Love doesn't know math."
The following month, Cher opened up about the relationship on "The Kelly Clarkson Show."
"On paper, it's kind of ridiculous," she admitted, "but in real life, we get along great. He's fabulous. And I don't give men qualities they don't deserve."
On New Year's Day, she sparked engagement rumors after showcasing a diamond ring from Edwards on social media. However, it has since been confirmed that the pair are not engaged.
Cher Was 'Shocked' To Discover Her Real Name
In her new book, "Cher: The Memoir, Part One," the iconic singer and actress revealed a surprising twist from her past.
Cher recalled being "shocked" to discover, while applying to legally change her name in 1979, that her birth certificate listed her first name as Cheryl, contrary to what she had believed her entire life.
"I believed Cherilyn was my name until the day years later when I decided to legally change my name to simply Cher," The Oscar and Grammy winner wrote.
The "Moonstruck" star explained that the mix-up occurred after her birth in 1946. Her mother, Georgia Holt, who was just 19 at the time, was exhausted after labor and didn't notice the error.
When a nurse asked what to name the baby, Holt said, "Well, Lana Turner's my favorite actress, and her little girl's called Cheryl. My mother's name is Lynda, so how about Cherilyn?'"
Years later, after learning the truth, Cher confronted her mother, asking, "Mom, do you even know my real name?"
As recounted in the memoir, Holt humorously replied, "I was only a teenager, and I was in a lot of pain. Give me a break."
She Once Struggled With Suicidal Thoughts
In her memoir, Cher also opened up about her troubled marriage to Sonny Bono, with whom she shares a son, Chaz.
Cher revealed that during their marriage, she struggled with deep unhappiness and even had suicidal thoughts before they finally divorced in 1975.
"I stepped barefoot onto the balcony of our suite and stared down. I was dizzy with loneliness. I saw how easy it would be to step over the edge and simply disappear," Cher penned, per Today. "For a few crazy minutes, I couldn't imagine any other option."
When Cher considered how her loved ones would feel if she took her own life and the possibility that it might make others view suicide as "a viable solution," she chose to "step back inside" rather than follow through with the suicidal thoughts.
According to the "Believe" crooner, she reached this point several times, but one day, she realized she had the power to break free from her unhappiness.
"Then, one morning, everything changed," Cher added. "That night between shows, I went out on the balcony again, and this time, I thought, I don't have to jump off; I can just leave him."
