Travis Scott is finally getting his long-awaited Coachella moment!
The rapper has landed a special guest spot at the 2025 festival, a significant milestone almost a decade in the making. This breakthrough comes after Scott faced widespread scrutiny following the 2021 Astroworld tragedy.
Travis Scott's Coachella gig has been a long time coming, with the star initially slated to headline in 2020 before COVID-19 upended plans.
Travis Scott Returns To Coachella With Saturday Night Set
After multiple attempts by him and the concert organizers to secure his return to the Coachella stage since his last performance in 2017, their persistence has finally paid off.
The father-of-two will take on the coveted Saturday night closing act, marking a memorable moment in his career. After his last appearance as a sub-headliner, Scott was initially slated to headline the 2020 festival, but the pandemic forced the event's cancellation.
Efforts to reschedule his performance in 2022 were derailed following the Astroworld tragedy in late 2021, which led to his removal from the lineup.
Sources revealed to TMZ that Scott's inclusion this time signals a new chapter for the artist, who joins a powerhouse lineup of performers. Post Malone is confirmed to headline Sunday night, while Lady Gaga and Green Day round out the list of top-billed acts.
The 'Antidote' Artist Reflected On Astroworld Tragedy
The 33-year-old's long-awaited return to Coachella comes with a renewed sense of purpose, especially after he opened up about the tragic events of the 2021 Astroworld Festival.
The devastating incident claimed the lives of ten fans and left many others injured, leaving a lasting impact on Scott. The Blast shared insights from Scott's November 2023 interview with GQ, where he opened up about the emotional toll the tragedy took on him.
Calling the event "devastating," Scott expressed his grief, sharing, "I always think about it. Those fans were like my family. You know, I love my fans to the utmost. I was just overly devastated."
The TV personality acknowledged that moving forward was not easy, saying, "It has its moments where it gets rough. You just feel for those people. And their families."
The Rapper Cleared Of Criminal Charges In Astroworld Tragedy
In June 2023, E! News reported that a Texas grand jury issued six no-bills, ruling out criminal charges against Scott. Following the tragedy, the songwriter, along with Live Nation, Epic Records, and other event organizers, faced multiple lawsuits.
Despite the legal scrutiny, the Harris County District Attorney determined there was not sufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges.
Scott's attorney, Kent Schaffer, expressed relief at the outcome, stating that the ruling "confirms what we have known all along—that Travis Scott is not responsible for the Astroworld tragedy."
Schaffer also emphasized the importance of learning from the incident, adding, "We hope for the government efforts to focus on what is most important—stopping future heartbreaking tragedies like AstroWorld from ever occurring again."
Travis Scott And Live Nation Settled Nine Of The Concert's Wrongful Death Cases
After three years of legal battles following the Astroworld tragedy, Scott and the ticketing company reached settlements in nine of the ten wrongful death lawsuits filed against them.
The final settlement came just before the case involving Madison Dubiski's family was set to begin jury selection in May. Neal Manne, Live Nation's attorney, confirmed the resolution during a court hearing, though details remained undisclosed due to a gag order, The Blast reported.
Attorney Noah Wexler, representing Dubiski's family, also confirmed that the matter was "resolved in its entirety." Scott's representative, Ted Anastasiou, expressed gratitude for the settlement, stating:
"Mr. Scott is grateful that a resolution has been reached without the need for a trial."
The confidential agreement was set to honor Dubiski's memory and emphasize the importance of improving concert safety.
Ezra Blount's Family's Case Is The Final Astroworld Case
The tenth wrongful death lawsuit from the tragedy centered on 9-year-old Ezra Blount, the youngest victim of the 2021 concert incident. His family's attorney, Scott West, confirmed they were fully prepared to proceed to trial.
Meanwhile, Live Nation's legal team and other defendants expressed that they were not yet ready to face the courtroom.
State District Judge Kristen Hawkins revealed plans to address the Blount case at a hearing alongside potential trials for remaining injury claims tied to Astroworld. She stated her intent to prioritize the Blount lawsuit over other cases should negotiations fall through.
All roads will certainly lead to Coachella for Travis Scott's fans!
