“Christmas is coming early this year,” Carpenter teased at the start of the trailer. “I wouldn’t count on a silent night.”
The trailer offers a glimpse of what’s in store, including Carpenter dazzling in a hot pink, Madonna-inspired evening gown for a dance number reminiscent of the iconic “Material Girl” music video. “Welcome to A Nonsense Christmas,” she quips. “Hope you like surprises.”
And surprises there are! The special is packed with an all-star lineup of musical guests, including duets with Chappell Roan, Tyla, Shania Twain, and Kali Uchis. Viewers can also look forward to appearances by Nico Hiraga, Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevingne, Sean Astin, Kyle Mooney, Megan Stalter, Jillian Bell, and Owen Thiele.
'A Nonsense Christmas' Is Full Of Surprises
The trailer concludes with a delightful surprise, teasing “holiday classics and Sabrina’s holiday hits” before cutting to a cameo from Santa Claus himself. In a humorous twist, Santa gazes into a mirror while singing a reimagined snippet of Sabrina’s song “Espresso,” playfully changing the lyric to, “I’m working late because I’m Santa.”
Set to premiere December 6 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT exclusively on Netflix, "A Nonsense Christmas" promises a festive mix of show-stopping performances, comedy, and star-studded cameos. Carpenter will perform songs from her holiday EP alongside other iconic holiday covers, blending her signature charm with a playful holiday vibe.
“The holidays have always been so special to me,” Carpenter said in a statement. “I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show — infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.”
Sabrina Carpenter Is Producing 'A Nonsense Christmas'
"A Nonsense Christmas" is produced by Sabrina Carpenter in collaboration with Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, Simone Spira, and Kfir Goldberg for OBB, along with Bill Perlman and Janelle Lopez Genzink.
“Sabrina’s vision to subvert the classic holiday special has been clear since day one,” Michael D. Ratner, executive producer and founder/CEO of OBB Media, said. “At OBB, we partner with the world’s most captivating artists to reimagine the expected, and we’re proud of the work by our entire team and want to highlight Simone Spira, the Volara team, Sam Wrench, Nikki Boella and all involved that brought Sabrina’s vision to life on Netflix.”
Sabrina Carpenter Addresses Backlash For 'Inappropriate' Show
In a cover story interview for TIME's TIME100 Next issue, the 25-year-old pop star opened up about embracing her sexuality in her work and how it has subjected her to similar criticism that icons like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera have faced throughout their careers.
When asked if she encounters similar criticism, Carpenter replied, “No, I definitely get that as well."
“Someone told me this, whenever I would get upset or feel like I'm the only one getting criticized for something other people are able to do seemingly so freely: I'm the one that's seeing all the negative sh-t about myself," she said. "My friends don't see that.”
"Femininity is something that I've always embraced and if right now that means corsets and garter belts and fuzzy robes or whatever the f-ck, then that's what that means," the former Disney star added.
Sabrina Carpenter Is Making Her Dreams Come True
Carpenter's unwavering persistence is finally paying off. “There were so many things I dreamt of doing as a little girl I got to do this year that felt like such a cool, sweet, little bucket-list moment for my younger self,” she told TIME. “I literally threw up when I found out about 'SNL.' Not to be graphic.”
Performing at the VMAs was yet another dream come true for Carpenter. “I grew up watching those performances and being like, I want to do that," she added.
