Madonna did not become the Queen of Pop by taking no for an answer.
The "Material Girl" hitmaker recently addressed her scrapped biopic, revealing Hollywood producers and agents are responsible for the delay. However, she refuses to give up, even if it means doing it alone.
Madonna's biopic had been in the making for years before the project was suddenly canceled in 2023 following news of her world tour. Now, the songstress wants fans to decide her next step — a movie or series highlighting her stellar career and life.
Madonna Reflects On Her Scrapped Biopic
The music icon opened up about her biopic challenges on Instagram, sharing a carousel of images. She rocked a stunning all-black ensemble, flaunting her ageless body in several poses and bonding with friends.
In one snap, Madonna posed affectionately with her boyfriend Akeem Morris, sitting on his lap. She also posed with British visual artist Nadia Lee Cohen and creative director Jess Cuevas.
While the pictures gave off a heartwarming vibe, the caption had a stricter tone. Madonna reflected on her scrapped biopic, noting she reached an epiphany after "struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents Tell me why I couldn't make my film."
Madonna Refuses To Shrink Herself Or Her Life Story

Despite working on the biopic for four years, producers and agents asked Madonna to "downsize" and "think smaller." While the rejection must have hurt, she addressed the situation positively. Madonna claimed it helped her realize that everything in her life would be challenging, writing:
"No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful… It forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way."
"Spending time with my creative friends was just the fuel I needed to keep going! We all agreed that we need to be even more fearless!!! Art = Survival," she continued, crediting her pals in the post.
"We cannot shrink and make ourselves smaller. If you want something badly enough in life — the whole universe will conspire to help you get it," Madonna declared before asking fans the big question:
"Should I make the story of my life into a series or a feature Film. Think before you answer!!"

Fans immediately responded to Madonna's query, some rooting for a movie while others believed a series would be better. "Your life would spark a trilogy of films," someone noted, but another IG user argued:
"Series! With each episode presenting different eras. 2 hours feature wouldn't be enough for 4 decades. Maybe a Netflix series. It's gonna be HUGE!"
"How can an impressive life fit in one movie? DO THE SERIES, but either way, we'll be here with you, as always," a third suggested. "Feature film Madonna all the way! Your love belongs on the big screen!!! I cannot wait," a fourth added.
On the other hand, one fan advised Madonna to ignore Hollywood producers, commenting: "You have the money. Fund it yourself and take full control. Hire the people that will do what you want. Once it's made, you'll have studios begging to get the rights."

In January 2023, The Blast reported that Madonna's biopic was scrappednot long after she announced a world tour. The project was being developed at Universal Pictures for months before its cancelation and was set to star Julia Garner as the renowned singer.
The biopic had been in the making for years but wasn't officially announced until 2020. Madonna revealed she had worked on two draft scripts covering extensive periods of her professional and personal life. She also credited her children for supporting her progress.
The biopic was to be produced by Amy Pascal and Guy Oseary, with Madonna as a director, co-screenwriter, and producer. Besides Garner, actress Julia Fox was in talks of portraying the singer's friend, Debi Mazar, in the project.
Madonna Sparked Biopic Return Months After Its Termination
Four months after her biopic was scrapped, The Blast shared that Madonna sparked speculations about the project's return to production. In May 2023, she shared pictures of herself and Garner at photographer Steven Klein's birthday bash.
The pair donned all-black ensembles and looked very close, even sharing a plate of fries in one picture. "B-tch, we're Madonna," the music icon captioned the snap, seemingly implying Garner would still portray her in the biopic.
As for why the project about her life was scrapped, an insider blamed Madonna for "acting weird" on social media during production. They claimed her behavior sparked the biopic's cancelation, saying:
"She signed a contract to make this film, and that should have been the signal to her to stop the circus antics, stop chasing likes, and just buckle down and get this movie into shape."
Will Madonna's biopic become a reality either as a movie or series?
