Jake Paul notched a headline-grabbing win against boxing legend Mike Tyson on Friday night, and within hours, he reignited his long-standing rivalry with MMA fighter Conor McGregor.
Paul secured the victory by unanimous decision in what many viewed as an underwhelming bout. Yet, the fight’s conclusion marked the start of a new campaign for the YouTuber-turned-boxer.
Following the fight against Mike Tyson, Jake Paul swiftly shifted focus to challenging Conor McGregor, proposing a high-stakes clash under MMA rules.
Jake Paul Calls Out Conor McGregor Post-Mike Tyson Fight
In a bold message posted to X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, early Saturday morning, Paul directly addressed McGregor, "Dear Conor, I know you told my team you would fight me at 170lbs. That’s never happening. But let’s run it in MMA. No weight class. Just like how it used to be done. But you won’t."
The 26-year-old didn’t hold back, adding that McGregor wouldn’t “be able to handle the smoke.” His post reignites a feud that has simmered for years, with Paul repeatedly calling out the Irish fighter and asserting he could defeat McGregor in a UFC-style fight, even in the Octagon.
McGregor, a former UFC champion in two weight classes, has yet to respond publicly to Paul’s latest callout. However, the fighter has previously dismissed Paul’s challenges, often brushing them off as promotional antics.
Conor McGregor Recently Appeared In Court Stemming From 2018 Rape Allegation
The Irish MMA fighter is at the center of serious allegations in Dublin’s High Court, where he has been accused of raping a woman in a Dublin hotel in 2018. The civil damages claim, filed by Nikita Ni Laimhin, also names a second defendant, James Lawrence, alleging both men sexually assaulted her.
On Tuesday, November 5, McGregor—widely known by his moniker “Notorious”—appeared in court as Justice Alexander Owens outlined the allegations. The incident is alleged to have taken place on December 9, 2018.
According to Ni Laimhin’s legal team, the plaintiff, who lived in the Dublin suburb of Drimnagh at the time with her partner and young daughter, had been out with friends on the night of the alleged assault. The group later returned to her salon to continue socializing, at which point she contacted McGregor.
Conor McGregor's Legal Team Fights Back
Her attorney, John Gordon SC, described McGregor as “enormously famous” and a figure of considerable influence in Drimnagh, where he was seen as a local “hero.” The two were said to have mutual friends and had exchanged messages on social media prior to the alleged incident.
McGregor’s legal team has pushed back against the claims, suggesting that Ni Laimhin is attempting extortion. In court, McGregor’s lawyers argued that the plaintiff does not have an automatic right to anonymity under Irish law.
While McGregor was present during the proceedings, no criminal charges have been filed against him in connection with the case. The High Court case, however, marks another legal challenge for the controversial fighter, who has faced multiple accusations and legal issues in recent years.
Both McGregor and Lawrence deny the claims, and the trial is expected to bring intense scrutiny as it unfolds in the coming weeks.
Jake Paul Sparks Controversy Following Victory Over Mike Tyson
Jake Paul claimed a unanimous decision victory over 58-year-old Mike Tyson in their eight-round bout at AT&T Stadium in Texas. Judges scored the fight 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in favor of Paul, who streamed the match live on Netflix. The fight marked Tyson’s first professional contest since his 2005 retirement, though he had previously participated in a 2020 exhibition against Roy Jones Jr.
The fight sparked criticism, with some accusing Paul of "pulling" his punches. In his post-fight interview, Paul addressed these claims, saying, "I was trying to hurt him a little bit. I was scared he was going to hurt me, I was trying to hurt him..." He also cited a recent injury—a sprained ankle and torn ligaments—that limited his training and impacted his ability to deliver a knockout.
Jake Paul-Mike Tyson Fight Sparks Outrage
The matchup faced backlash from the boxing community, with figures like Gervonta Davis and Tony Bellew criticizing it as exploitative and urging fans to boycott Paul’s fights until he faces more appropriate opponents.
Despite the controversy, the financial rewards were significant, with Tyson earning $20 million and Paul potentially taking home $40 million.
