Earlier this week, "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria shared that she no longer resides in the United States full-time, leading to speculation that she moved due to Donald Trump and the 2024 presidential election.

At the time, Longoria explained that she now spends most of her time between Spain and Mexico. While the decision to live abroad was made before the divisive election cycle, she noted that the results have reinforced her choice and heightened her "anxiety" for those still living in the U.S.

Now, Eva Longoria is clearing the air regarding her comments about her family living abroad.

Longoria shared in a Tuesday, November 12 cover story for Marie Claire’s “Age Issue” that she has been splitting her time between Spain and Mexico with her husband José Bastón and their 6-year-old son Santiago over the past few years.

On Friday, November 15, she clarified that her time in Europe has been primarily for work and not related to the current political climate in the United States. “Will you please let them know I didn't move out of the United States because of [President-elect Donald] Trump,” Longoria said.

“I've been in Europe working for 3 years,” she continued. “That’s in the article, by the way, the article says that. People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive. Which makes me so sad that everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can't be that way right now.”

The star later clarified that she “didn't leave because of the political environment." She explained that she is currently in Catalonia, Spain, working on her Apple TV+ series "Land of Women" and also spends time in Mexico for her series "Searching for Mexico."

“I just don't like that it's politicized because the [article’s] author did a really good job talking about my patriotism," she said. “I'm a proud American. I've always been a proud American. Proud Texan, proud American. I didn't want it to be taken that I left because of Trump — absolutely not — or because of the elections.”

“I don't know why people just wanna grab an excerpt to really exploit it," she continued.

Longoria, a longtime advocate for the Democratic Party, spent part of the summer campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris. She told the magazine that President-elect Donald Trump's victory is one of the reasons she feels content being away from the United States at the moment.

"If he keeps his promises, it's going to be a scary place," Longoria said, adding, "Even before (the pandemic), it was changing. The vibe was different. And then COVID happened, and it pushed it over the edge."

"The shocking part is not that he won," she told the outlet. "It’s that a convicted criminal who spews so much hate could hold the highest office."

She recalled her feelings about Trump securing the presidency in 2016.

"I've never been depressed in my life," she said. "It was like, 'Does my vote really matter? Am I really making a difference?' I was so untethered to the core of what I believe because I truly believed in my soul that the best person wins. And then that happened, and I was like, 'Oh, wait. The best person doesn't win.'"

Actress America Ferrera is reportedly considering moving her family to the United Kingdom following Donald Trump’s recent election victory.

According to a Daily Mail report, Ferrera is “devastated” by the outcome and has been exploring a potential relocation to southwest London. She has allegedly started looking into private schools in the area as part of her plans. Despite the move, Ferrera reportedly intends to continue her Hollywood career while establishing her family abroad.

Laverne Cox has voiced similar concerns, sharing with Variety that she and several of her trans friends are so worried about the current climate in the U.S. that they are considering leaving the country. “We’re doing research on different cities in Europe and in the Caribbean,” Cox revealed, adding that she is aware of others attempting to relocate to states considered safer for trans individuals.
