Mark Wahlberg Expands Vegas Empire With New Business Venture: 'Where Luxury And Serious Fitness Meet'

Shortly after opening a restaurant in Las Vegas, actor Mark Wahlberg has announced that he's ready to open another business - a fitness center. But according to Wahlberg's description, this isn't going to be your average, ordinary fitness center.

On Thursday morning, Howard Hughes Holdings Inc., the developer of the Summerlin master planned community, announced a new lease for Wahlberg's MUNICIPAL GYM powered by EoS Fitness at Downtown Summerlin.

Wahlberg, a Summerlin resident, is known for being committed to fitness, so it should come as no surprise that he's about to embark on a new business venture - MUNICIPAL GYM.

The 32,064-square-foot facility will be located in the former Bed Bath & Beyond space on Summa Drive in Downtown Summerlin and is expected to open by 2026.

According to a press release, MUNICIPAL GYM Co-Chairman, President and CEO Manzo Hodge said this fitness center "will take the gym industry by storm."

"MUNICIPAL GYM was founded on the belief that a commitment to a healthy lifestyle empowers you to achieve great things," said Hodge. "Together, with Mark, we're building a first-of-its-kind, state-of-the-art facility with the best equipment in the world, created with a singular mission: to inspire and equip people to be unstoppable."

Hodge also said the MUNICIPAL GYM will offer amenities such as a recovery center that features cryotherapy, cold plunges, red light therapy, infrared saunas, and more.

Senior Vice President, Management and Operations for Howard Hughes, Andy Ciarrocchi added, "We are thrilled to welcome Mark Wahlberg and the entire MUNICIPAL GYM team to Downtown Summerlin. MUNICIPAL GYM's comprehensive approach to fitness and wellness is a perfect fit with the demographics and lifestyle of our shoppers and area residents."

In early November, Wahlberg took to Instagram to announce his new business plan.

"This is where luxury and serious fitness meet. Municipal gym/fitness and recovery!!!" he captioned his video that shared more of what people can expect.

"This will be the first time in history that luxury and serious fitness meet," he said in his Instagram video. "Recovery, rejuvenation therapy, juice bars, cafes, retail stores; only the best vitamins and supplements for you. Big, crazy collabs, more to be announced. This is happening."

He continued to explain that "we'll be training together" and "we'll be showing people what they are capable of doing."

Many fans dropped into the comments to share their thoughts on the new fitness center planned for Summerlin in Las Vegas.

"Let’s go! Can’t wait," one person wrote. Another said, "This is brilliant!!! Congratulations! This is great for Las Vegas!"

Wahlberg is working on getting Vegas locals excited for his new venture and sharing the news with everyone.

"We're so excited because, look, we want to change the face of fitness, and we want to create something that's super high-end and luxury with serious training for somebody who's never been in the gym before and the most elite athlete," Wahlberg said during the grand opening celebration for his newly opened Vegas restaurant, Flecha Cantina in Town Square, according to Fox News.

"You'll see guys from the Raiders, you'll see the gals from the Aces, you're going to see everybody at every level of fitness there is. It's going to create a community and experience that you've never seen in fitness before."

Wahlberg isn't new to opening businesses in Las Vegas. He recently opened his second location of Flecha Cantina in Town Square on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip. His first location is in Huntington Beach, CA.

Flecha Cantina's menu is "crafted by renowned international chefs and mixologists," according to its website. The menu "blends Mexican classics with a contemporary fire. Each bite is a journey, and each sip is an experience in what it means to be memorable."

Flecha also serves Wahlberg's tequila brand of the same name.

The night before the restaurant's ribbon cutting ceremony, less than two months after opening, things got heated - literally.

On November 6, videos of a fire on the front patio section of Flecha Cantina circulated online. While the videos looked intense, it was later explained that it looked worse than it was thanks to the building's "reflective windows."

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Randy Sharpe, CEO of Wahlbergers said, "The whole front of the building has reflective windows, so it made it look pretty spectacular, but not in a good way. The fire department came out quickly, they suppressed it. It was out in 20 minutes. It was very minor. Fortunately, it wasn't worse."

The restaurant reopened an hour later and the ribbon cutting ceremony happened as planned the following day.
